stabilizer jacks

Anyone done a mod for stabilizer jacks?I am sick of putting those cheap screw up jacks under my camper and having to get dirty.I have got an idea and going to give it a try if it works I will post pics and a how to.I am going to my local scrap yard and going to get 4 matching screw up sissor jacks and weld a U- bracket under each corner to the frame and going to mount the sissor jacks.no more getting dirty just use the rod and jack her up when done wind it up.Its just a thought but willing to try anything.PLEASE add your thoughts good or bad and any other ideas that might help Thanks.

I started out with the screw jacks. My trailer had brackets that allowed scissor jacks to be bolted to the frame. Now all I have to do is keep up with the wrench to turn the jacks down. I do place a board under the jack to keep it from sinking in the gravel or dirt.

Let me know if you need pictures, but you could probably have a plate welded to the trailer and then bolt scissor jacks on as well.

Good luck.

I added the BAL scissor jacks to our previous T-2670. The T-2670 had a C-frame and I was able to bolt the BAL scissor jacks to the frame.

Let us know how things turn out for you.

Good luck.

We have 6 Scissor Jacks on our 2499TT.

Two at each corner, and one set right in front of the front set of axles. The middle set makes a huge differance when parked for longer periods than over night.

We use a 18volt cordless drill to put them up and down, and cant imagine not having them.

Other than hydrolic jacks like the ones on Carl Kern's model, scissor jacks are going to be your best bet

I took a few of my jacks. They are not great, but you can see if they help. I tried to show how they were attached, and where they were attached relative to the bumpers and wheels.

Go to http://photomacs.smugmug.com/gallery/5037615_b2g44 to view.

Later,
David

Just a thought here...

If I recall correctly, I don't think that most automotive scissors jacks have the same reach as the stabilizer jacks. If memory serves, you only get about 8" to 12" of extension on a scissors jack. The ones on TT's seem to have a much longer extension, maybe up to 24" or so.

That said, it really just means you'd have to carry some more cribbing blocks with you. Most TT folks carry some anyway to deal with those sloping campsites. My preference is 4"x4" and 2"x4" stock cut into 11" pieces.
