Special project (wood working)
I am the last person in the world that knows much about wood working. My wife and I are building a camp sign for our campsites, sort of a family shingle when we travel and hang it up on the camp site post.
I bought a pine board at Lowes and we're drafting our family name, city and 2 pics and a few other things on it. We decided to try our hand at wood burning our name into it for that rustic look. The pics are going to be animated TT and a animated pine tree. We have done some stenciling so far and not that bad. (personal opinion of course)
We saw these at various campsites last year and thought they were cool, so we're making one. I'll post a pic when it's done.
I do plan to coat the whole thing with clear coat as most of the hot rod builders are doing these days on pick-up truck wooden slotted beds. But prior to the clear coat and prior to our custom signage I want to stain it...darker than the natural pine but no too dark. It's a semi-knotty pine no serious knots. I think it was designated for shelving or custom cabinetry. Any woodworkers out there that could suggest one or two stains? Gel coats or not? Tongue oil or not?
Obviously I don't want a heavy treatment, more just a hint.
The label on the Board says it's a solid, laminated, Lodgepole Pine
