Sewer Hose Holders

Hi Folks

I have been meaning to post this modification for some time. One of my good camping buddies wanted some dimensions on these so it prompted me to, get with it… Thought this might be usefull to other fellow Sunliner’s so here goes.

On my lower T2499 connecting to full hook ups at times presented some sewer hookup opportunities to say the least. Many campgrounds are inspected by state and local agencies dealing with wastewater treatment and how campers connect to the system and as such mandate certain plumbing requirement by campgrounds

On the low to the ground T2499 on several sites I had to put the camper up on blocks just to get the sewer pipe to flow down hill to the sewer drain. Seems there are regulations in some states that the sewer riser pipe has to be a minimum of 6” above grade to not allow surface water into the system. I was told this by the CG owner as he was watching me deal with the situation. For this low camper the only way I could get out of this was to raise the camper.

How do you deal with this elevation? I know some lay the pipe on the ground and then go up and over and into the sewer spout. This I can see working on grey water, but the black tank I would think would be a challenge when it comes time to dump.

This opportunity prompted a creative way to over come. First was how to hold the hose. I had made these holders out of 4” PVC sewer pipe with a portion cut out of it to cover my awning. They double well as sewer hose holders. They are 4 to 5 feet long and connect together to make any length I need up to 20 feet. You can see here the next challenge. How to hold them up.

From this trip….I had to come up with another method to hold up the pipe as I do not always have that much extra wood in the truck/camper or I need it to shim up other things. I know you can buy sewer pipe holders but after looking at the price and lack of adjustability I made my own. It is more therapeutic anyway. I have to yet paint/seal them for outdoors but they do work well. Here they are in action.

There are 2 sizes, long and short. You can also flip them up side down to get the block lower to the ground if needed. I only have 2 longer ones (16”) and the rest are the shorter ones (12”) I have yet to ever need more then 2 long ones.

Here are some pics of the setup on our bigger camper. We now have no more problems with draining as the whole TT is up higher and the holders work well.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks for sharing John. I've had those 'sidewinders' in my hand twice now only to put them back both times thinking they were too costly for what they actually were. The last time the lady at the RV supply store let me open it up and demo it on the floor, fairly flimsy for $20, $30, or $40 for different lengths/components. I've got a slew of those pine strips right now with the project I'm working on. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated!

Take care,
Jason

Nope, just some padding when I remember to put it on.
But I have put a restraining order on Mary – she’s not allowed within 10’ for the slide corners anymore

John,

The sewer hose drainage was one of the reasons I raised my trailer 4" with the axle "flip".

I realize this is an old thread but after this weekend, I felt I just had to add to it.

After a nice spring cleaning and a weekend restocking, Kathy and I took our T-1750 out for our first 2012 excursion to Presque Isle Passage in Fairview, PA. Low and behold I didn't pack the custom sewer hose holders (based on John's design).

That first night, we suspended our hose with a pile of firewood at each end:

By the second 85 degree day, we had a bunch of empty water bottles at our disposal. That gave me an idea. I grabbed a spool of para-cord (string), out of my bag and tied the end to one of the bottle necks with a square knot. I cut off a length of cord and tied it to the neck of a second bottle using a slip knot, so I could adjust the slack between:

Placing a bottle on either side of the hose gutter would sling the gutter on the cord, suspending it up off the ground. Using the slip knot, I was able to raise or lower the gutter for an almost perfect slope.

This is how it looked for the remainder of the weekend. The hose sits in the gutter which is suspended on the string tied between the bottles:

It may not be pretty, but we had a good laugh about it with our site neighbors. No pooling, no backup, no smell... no problem!
