RV Show

We went to our annual RV show, a showcase for new TT and RV stuff.

I see a lot of newer trailers with that checker plate or diamond plate acting as a stone guard on the front of the TTs.
I touched it kind of like kicking the tires and it seems a little flimsy (thin). It comes in a chrome finish and a black finish (most likely a powder coat) I was thinking about ordering a sheet of that stuff and placing on the front of out 1985 T1350. I try to keep things original and this is definitely NOT original. I asked one of the dealers and he said the stuff is available after market but not cheap ~~~ $180 per sheet. The ones I am looking at are laid over top of the trailer's original siding and not part of the siding.

Has anyone with a used trailer ever used this stuff? Is it any good or should I avoid it?

It might enhance the look but it might also take away from MY TTs original look. The picture above is the closet I could find that shows the product. A quick look at my avatar shows my TT

Somewhere in the archives is a thread where some members had added the diamond plate to the front of their TT's. I believe one such thread was by a person that did a one off custom fabrication TT for his brother. A very well done project complete with step by step photos.

I found some pics of a 2004 T-320SR yesterday. They did a good job, of adding it to their camper..

The diamond plate does help reduce the stone dings in the front of the camper. The more you tow, the more dings. Sunline did offer this on the newer campers.

It comes in various thicknesses. I think it was Nana and Poppy that had one added to the front of their T2499 and they never took up the corners. I saw it and they did a great job on it. Could hardly tell it was added and not original.

It is on my to do list sometime in the future. I have found the sheets a lot less then the $180. RV surplus places have them in narrower width then the 4 x 8 sheet so you do not waste so much.

It was an option on the 07s, we have it on ours.

It does help with the stone dings but it is NOT the heavy diamond plate tool boxes, etc are made of. It will not protect from a heavy puncture, like having the bars from your hitch slide down the a frame against the front of your trailer while lowering the tongue jack. Don't ask me how I know!!!![emoji32] [emoji35]
