Yeah, he's definitely a keeper!
Matthew said you're right about the grind, he grinds the coffee coarser when he brews in the percolator to reduce the fine sediment in the bottom. Basically, after it starts perking it takes from 5-7 minutes for the coffee to brew, depending on how you like it, and then it's done. You do have to keep lowering the heat during that time. What takes a while is for the water to get hot enough to start perking. (Remember the old Maxwell House commercials with the percolator jingle.) Matthew did a little experimenting with the time in the beginning but now, if taste is any indication, he's got it down pat.
By the way, the percolator we bought is quite nice looking so it gets to stay out on the stove here at home.
