Question New Mods

I am thinking of taking out the gaucho couch to make room for a desk and small chair in my T-1950. (I will keep it the couch)

The outside storage goes under the couch and also I think there is a accordion-type piping thingie that is a furnace vent underneath. Has anyone done this? Can a subfloor be added to cover the outside storage opening?

Also can the overhead light fixtures be replace by regular (more stylish) light fixtures?

Some examples:

You can replace the overhead fixtures with any other 12v fixture that has a base at least the same size to cover up the marks from the old one. The outside storage area takes about 2/3 of the space below the couch. The other 1/3 of the area toward the refrigerator is the furnace. A heating vent and duct is there too.

You can't remove the couch and expect to get clear floor space.

Thanks for your reply. So the 2/3 thirds space taken up by the outside storage would not provide any clear space because there would be no way to cover it up with a floor, nothing to nail a sub-floor to, is that correct?

And I guess I could just use a more stylish cover to just cover up the ceiling fixture?

The sub floor is there. You might get 30" of new floor and you could replace the carpet to include the floor in the old storage area. You'd lose a heating vent and will have to put something over the furnace.
