New converter needed a vent...

When I removed the old 60AMP converter from our fifth wheel, I knew it would need more ventilation. What it had, was the very few holes in the old converter housing. Kitty ordered a 6 X 12" oak vent from Lowes and stained it.

Here I am, putting the breaker box/old converter housing back in it's place. I pulled it out, to figure out where the vent needed to be placed. You can see the new converter mounted just inside the hole. That area is where the old 30AMP power cord used to be stored. It now holds the new converter and the generator automatic transfer switch.

I cut the hole with a utility knife and made it large enough for the remote converter pendant to squeeze through. Here's a picture of the finished vent and pendant mount:

The light showing through it, was from outside. I had the electric cord door open, to help me see what I was doing. Here is what it looks like closed:

One more picture of the vent and it's surroundings:

Yup! I pointed out the lack of noise to Kitty, while I was working on the vent!

The heat sink is so big I cannot even recall the fan on mine ever turning on. I know it is variable speed so maybe it is purring in there and I never hear it.

I'm glad you joined the "quite club" LOL....

First let me say the vent install looks great! It looks stock.

Not sure if I missed a post or not but wondering why you changed he converter. Was there a problem with the old one?

Besides the fact that it was loud, it also didn't have the different charging modes.

Thanks Gary. It is something I will be looking at doing in the next year or two. If you don't mind me asking which model did converter did you replace the original one with and was it an exact fit? Also did it take long to change out.

Hey Bill,

I used the same converter that JohnB used, in his T310SR. It's a Progressive Dynamics PD9260C. He did a great writeup HERE

It's not designed to be mounted where the other one is. What I did, was remove the old one completely and installed this one, in the area where we used to store the power cord. When I switched to the Marinco style plug, there was no longer a need to store the cord in that compartment. Besides the converter, I also mounted the generator transfer switch in that same compartment. The reason for that new vent, is because the new converter is mounted directly behind it and no longer in the old case.
