Planning to get easier access to the overhead cabinet above the night stand. I have the optional front twin beds, and there is a full width cabinet above the head of the beds. There ia a door on each side over the head of the beds, BUT there is a stationary panel over the center nightstand. And guess where things ALWAYS see to slide to while your traveling, yep right behind that center panel, well, I'm working on a solution:

OH, ya want to know why I didn't have a wood panel put in the door frame, well.............................that's gonna be something special

And, I was out tearing things apart some more, I don't have an oven, I deleted that when I special ordered Sunny, and a while ago I found a wire slide out basket that fit perfectly and mounted in the bottom of the cabinet
but then I had all this space about that pull out basket, so now I'm installing drawer glides and will be making a wooden drawer to install in the upper part of the cabinet. Do I KNOW how to do this, heck NO, but I'm gonna try Here's what I've got so far:

The door looks great...can't wait to see the insert With the twin beds, Sunline should have given you a door there to begin with! Now that you have the door that'll be the easiest section of those cabinets to access. I know we absolutely love having the extra doors that we added.

Kathy,

Thanks for the compliments. THe wood is maple, just like what Sunline used for the frames, and the stain is a color match using Pittsburgh Interior Rez-Stain Semi-Transparent Oil Tinting Base #77-560 I have the formula some where, but I can't lay my fingers on it right at the moment.

The frame looks a bit red, but on the test piece of wood it matches perfect, and it matches the living room frames perfect, I guess it just varies due to the wood. I WILL be having this cabinet man make me another cabinet a little later on, maybe in the spring. Hopefully, what I am planning for the door insert will turn out good and like I am hoping it will but that won't be happening immediately. But, I will post pics once I get it.

Pam,

Well, IF any of us had know what was going to happen to Sunline, we might have tried to get more custom stuff done before they shut their doors.

I had over 2 years to THINK about how & what I wanted in/on Sunny and I still missed things.

I'm going to head to Camping World in a little bit and pick up a pair of the BAL deluxe tire locking chocks they are on sale for 49.99 each. I am tired of messing with the cheap crap that don't work like I want.

And then on the way home, I'll stop at Flying J and fill up the truck.

KItty

Kitty, is that a stock cabinet or did you have someone make it for you custom?

Cindy has been bugging me to have a door put on that middle piece for a year now!

If you have the name and number of the guy that made yours, I know we basically have the same thing, so I'll have him make me one too

Cindy uses the stove way too much, but a door for where the micorwave might be a good option for us. Right now, she just has a curtain hanging there.

Thanks for the great ideas and pictures!!

Hi Pat,

You should have that stationary panel in the front of your Sunline, I think, but maybe not because you have the single bed and I have twins. Somewhere in my mess, I have his phone number, I'll get it for you.

I provided the knob, hinges & stain and he provided the wood and the work and he did the staining for me, boy is the finish on it NICE !! , He charged me 35 bux and I am quite please with his work. I am hoping to have him make me another cabinet in the spring.

I can't remember, do you have a microwave or just the empty cabinet with no door ?

Kitty

Kitty when you do find his # can you post it here.....I too would be interested in having a door make for over the bed (2499 has the same style as you) and one for where the clock is. That is also wasted space or hard to reach space, however you want to define it.

Thanks,

Pat & Kathy,

I will find the number for you. One thing I think I should mention, was the price of 35 dollars was for the door frame cut to accept an insert as I am planning a special project for the center panel of the frame. He can do the wooden panel insert, so I don't know that price. If you decide to get him to make you a door, I will supply the stain as he hardly used any out of the quart I had made. And if you can wait til June, I can bring the doors to Buttonwood in June, save you some $$.

And Kathy, now you have me thinking of putting a door where the clock is also.

Boy, don't we always find ways for us to spend more $$$

I think they did have a microwave, but they took it out and sold it.

The T2499 with the queen and the side cabinets have the center panel as well.

In fact our T310 does too and most likely any front bed room.

So you may have sparked an upgrade as Cindy complains about all the stuff sliding to the middle too.

Tweety had some doors made up down south that I may look into getting. I do have some 3/4 maple left over from when I built my sons crib and dresser set but it has aged in the shed and I do not know if I can cut it... sparks flew from the saw then and it is now 25 years older...

We also have a hole along the rear window are that needs a door.

OK what is this "Clock" hole you are talking about??

John

John,

There is a fixed panel above the sofa where the clock is mounted, and that is what Kathy wants to change to an operating door, as stuff always migrates to that hard to access location. And, now she has put that thought in my head (well, I had thought of it before, but only briefly) So, since she mentioned it, I will also be changing my fixed panel into a door. I think I will try to reuse the fixed panel in the new door frame that way I would still mount my clovk on it. OH, this is an old photo, as I got rid of that noisy ticking clock and have a very nice SILENT digital clock there now.

Ah yes. The ticking time bomb clock..... how could I forget....

Cindy made up a patch quilt thing to go over that spot as the time bomb went out a while ago.

The T310 came with a differnt one, a whole lot better. It has a twist and turn base and then comes off easy to get to battery and set time. And the tick, is tolerable.

Hey Kitty, we did have a microwave when we started, but as Jon said, We Sold it after our first year on the road. In one full year, we had only used it 3 times, so we couldnt justify the space it was taking up and the weight.

Pulled it out while in Quartszite and sold it to a dealer who aked me if I had just stole it out of a new camper I just told him we only boondock, and having to pull out a generator to just make some pop-corn seemed to teedious!

Got $50 for it, so it put fuel in the tank....sorry to say only a half tank at that time in the adventure.

So I'd love to give him the diemensions to that empty spot and have him make a door.

We have the same color cabinetry, so I'd probably take you up on the stain also THanks for the offer!

If you find the number, I'd take you up on your other idea and probably have him make a door for the clock position, the one over the bed and the microwave hole. So maybe you should start talking to him about a commission...LOL

The cabinet maker information:

Affordable Cabinetry & Custom Woodworking , H. Bruce Clark, (304)229-5041 He knows me as Bonnie Young, the school bus driver with the big truck & Sunline.

I have taken measurements to replace the fixed panel over the couch with a working door. I "think" I might just have him do the frame and unsert the fixed panel that I'll be removing. That way I can still hang the clock on the door and not feel guilty about putting a hole in the new wood.

IF you plan to put a door in place of the fixed panel, REMEMBER to allow room for the hinges in your measurements. This is not critical if the hinges are on top like on the over the bed cabinet, but it IS critical on the over the sofa cabient with side mounted hinges.

I hope to get over to Bruces' within a few days.

Kitty

PS: The offer of the stain is extended to everyone
