LED Upgrade & Lenses

Some of this may be old news but I have some sources I wanted to share. First of all this is the lamp fixture in my 90 T205. After some research I found they are a Progressive Dynamics PD770 series.

A few of my lenses looked like this from the heat of the incandescent bulbs.

I found the replacement lenses here.

Amazon.com: Progressive Dynamics PD307 PD770 Series White Lens - Pack of 2: Automotive

I used bulbs from Brightech sold on Amazon. As it turns out i bought two different versions of the same bulb, 4 of each for a total of 8.
Brightech LED BA15s - Cool White Color - Bayonet Base 36LEDs SMD Bulb - 2nd Generation with 36 LEDs - Replacement for #1156 1141 1073 1093 1129 93 : Amazon.com : Automotive

Brightech LED BA15s - Warm White Color- Bayonet Base 36LEDs SMD Bulb - 2nd Generation with 36 LEDs - Replacement for #1156 1141 1073 1093 1129 93 - : Amazon.com : Automotive

The cool white is very white like a fluorescent bulb whereas the warm white looks just like the standard 1141. I put the cool whites in the hall/kitchen area and on the outside porch light where I figured the extra brightness would be most needed. Getting the two different versions was purely accident since I place two orders and thought I was ordering the same. I was happy to find the replacement lenses separately for a good price. I really didn't want to get into changing out the whole fixtures.

Hope this info helps someone else.

What kind of bulbs are those? Mine look just like normal little bulbs while these looks like something from a space ship.

Thanks for posting, Jim. This particular fixture was used from sometime in the late '80s/1990 up through 1998. I know there are some knockoff lenses that fit it too, because my local dealer carries them. I think they're through Coast Distribution or one of the other big names.

LEDs Light Emitting Diode. Each of those little yellow things is a diode. They are expensive but well worth it IMO. The advantage is they use a LOT less power if boondocking and create virtually no heat. So they won't burn the plastic lenses again and will last much longer too. I like to leave the outside light on until we come in for the night and the bath on in case we need to get up in the middle of the night. With these I don't have to worry about the battery. This was the best price I found. I had seen them as high as $20 each. I'm glad I could help .

Underdog,

You mean I can use these to replace my normal bulbs????? Or do I have to have a special light fixture?

Direct replacement. Untwist the old ones and put in the new.

Anita,

Mostly direct replacement for LEDs. We bought LEDs on-line from this place:

194 LED Bulb - 10 SMD LED Wedge Base | Miniature Wedge Base LEDs | LED Car Bulbs | Super Bright LEDs

and they didn't quite fit. Called the company's tech support and they said to just shave down the plastic base a little which we did and they fit and worked like a charm. We're quite pleased with them. Their customer support is really good; one of the LEDs they sent didn't work for us so we returned it. They tested it and said it worked for them but asked if we wanted a replacement or a refund, even tho' we had altered it by shaving the base. They sent a replacement immediately and were very nice about the whole thing. We'll buy from them again.

I also use Super Bright when I purchased any of my LED's = a bit more pricey than the ones you can find on e-bay - but great customer service/support!

I repaced my lights too to save battery. I even found a 12v LED the size of a standard light bulb that fits a 120v lamp which I converted to 12v. I found it on Amazon and I believe it's equal to 25 watt and draws 9.
