Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Thermometer

I recently purchased a very inexpensive wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer. Now, I don't know where to mount the outdoor sensor.

It's 2 1/2" x 2" x 1" thick. The remote unit is weather resistant but should be kept out of direct sunlight and direct weather elements. Suggestions?

I have seen some remote sensors installed UP HIGH on the side of the coach just below the awning so it's covered.

I have seen others that are installed UNDER the coach, on an outrigger portion of frame.

Not sure which way I'll go yet...

I HAVE that same exact wireles unit, and I NEVER could get it to give a proper reading. I originally put the sensor under the propane tank cover (I have the hard plastic hinged cover), it didn't work from there, so I moved it to under the awning, nope didn't work, tried a few other places, still didn't work, so now the stupid thing is sitting right here on my desk with the sensor outside my mobie home under the door canopy and it still doesn't work. And, yes I have put new batteries in it several times. At first I thought it was because my Sunny has aluminum sides, but that's not the problem as my mobile home is vinyl sided.

I now have a wired thermometer, I had added the second exterior light by the door, so I just ran the sensor wire thru the same hole to the outside with the new light wiring. The sensor is directly under the light fixture, so it's fairly protected from the weather, and the panel is inside near the door.

I did change the lens on the 2nd light to an amber one. WHY? did I add a second light, because when my door is open the original light is behind the door and will not light up the entrance area.

My Grandparents have that exact same Weather Channel one. The batteries for the sensor seemed to always go dead, and the ones on the unit itself weren't much better. My mom went to replace them back in November, and once the new batteries were installed, it started to smoke!! So out came the batteries and it just sits on a shelf now with yet again no temp reading. Even with good batteries, it still rarely read the exterior temp.

For some years we have used the indoor/ outdoor wireless thermometer from Walmarts, I believe it's $10. I mount the inside part in the center of the front cabinet and the outside part I put in the battery box. I use an identical one in the motorhome.

They work great. I use rechargeable AAA batteries. They seem to run a couple of months on a charge.

The battery box location does to heat up during the day, but other than that seems accurate and my primary interests are night time and morning temps.

On occassion we have put the wireless part in the refrigerator to mnitor it's daytime temperature.

Sounds like I may have to reconsider my choice for a indoor/outdoor thermometer.

Wired would work... something like this?

I actually have that exact one at school right now. Since August, it's worked without a flaw and it still has the original battery.

They give you a good amount of wire, but I'm not sure how well it would work on a TT. Since the windows are so weather tight, it may be hard to get it out without leaving the window open some. Our windows are very old and single pane (in fact, I just got notification they'll be replacing them), so getting the wire through isn't a problem.

I just have the wire go under the window and I have the sensor stuck in a small hole I made in the edge of the screen. The only downside, and I suspect it's due to the drafty windows, is that the sensor seems to always read about a degree or so warmer than actual temperature according to weather.com

I've seen it read from about -3 to 95.

I started off with a unit that had a wired outdoor sensor and eventually the wire broke for the outside sensor. The wireless units have been flawless.

I looked on line at Walmarts for the unit I bought but didn't see it however everytime I look the stores have them. I'll check next time I go to Walmart and report on the model number.

We actually have 2 of the wireless ones. We use one in the fridge all the time. Works great to see what the temp is and not have to open the door. This is also centrally located in the TT as it has indoor temp on it too.

The other one which has to be a different frequency we use to see outside temps and the other end of the camper inside temp. Since we have so many windows on the back, the temp in the back is different the middle of the camper. This is right next to the entry door.

Now where do we put the outdoor sending unit? One of 3 places all depending on the time of year and the awning up or down. We have it loose on purpose so it moves around. Not a big problem.

When the weather says it is OK to have the awning down, it goes on the shelf on the side of the camper. It also has a display on it so we can see the temp while outside.

It is here to the left of the paper towels

If the awning is up then there are 2 options.

If the weather is clear/winter cold and no snow or rain, I just put it on the picnic table to give me a good reading of just how frosty is outside…

If it is raining out then it goes on the wheel chocks. This way it is out of the weather and I do not forget it as I have to take the wheel chocks out if I want to roll home…..
Would go on the top horiz wedge board

Both where bought at Walmart and one was on clearance if I remember right. Only paid like $10 each. They do work well.

I think that one is still avail be at Wal-Mart. It was the multi receiver one that was on clearance for us.

We use the Acurite unit in our camper also and just set the outdoor sensor on the picnic table when we set up. I use it in the house in the wintertime to see the outdoor temp. Now, Google Chaney Instruments and you'll find a refrigerator thermometer for about $25 that has two remote wireless sensors and a unit with two displays, one for fridge and one for freezer. It even has a high/low record and alarm if you want to set it.

Was in Wal-Mart last night. That Acurite in Norms like sells for $9.00 in the one I visited. However the multi unit one, can have up to 3 sensors, not that one was not there any longer.
