Factory Radio Location

Hello everybody, I know that someone in here has already done this, or can help me out. I have an 89 Solaris t2953 and want to add a radio. I know that it is already prewired because of the stickers on the ceiling.

What I cant figure out is where the location for the radio is. I know that is where all of my wires will be hiding. I'm not afraid of drilling the ceiling for speakers but I hate to cut a hole in a cabinet or wall and it not be the right spot. Thanks in advance for any help or tips.

Hi Sean,

After looking at your floorplan, take a look at either the cabinet over the couch, or the TV cabinet. Open the cabinet doors, and inside the cabinets, should be some sort of cover. Or possibly in the TV cabinet, open the doors, stick your head in, and look up.

My first choice would be that TV cabinet, in the base cabinet just below the counter top. That was a usual location for a radio to be mounted. If it's in the middle of the cabinet over the couch, there may be a cover over the area inside the cabinet- a piece of metal siding or wood box screwed down. One of my '94 Sunlines was radio prepped, while the other had a factory radio. Both had a piece of siding bent and covering over the area inside the upper cabinet.

It shouldn't be in the kitchen or bedroom, but if you don't find the wires in the above locations, start checking all the cabinets. You shouldn't have to do any drilling or cutting to find the radio end of the wires.

Thank you so much. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and let you know what I find. I'm hoping that its up high since I have a 1 and 2 year old that likes to push buttons lol

In my 89' Satellite the radio in the middle just above the couch...

I have no clue where the radio belonged in my T1700 but there were little tags on the ceiling as to where the speakers were to be mounted and miles of wire inside the cabinets above the counter so I guessing under the cabinets. To me it did not matter because I had my own ideal as to where it should be.

The head unit would have been mounted in the face of the cabinet where the wires came out, not underneath.

It would have to had been mighty small it's only 5" wide! I'm guessing a 27 year old radio was rather large modern DIN is 7"X2".

Page 15 of the 1990 brochure shows a picture of the original radio option (non-stereo). The optional deluxe stereo system was quite large, probably 18" wide, but the single cassette radio was quite small.

Attached is a picture of that radio mounted.

OK that is where I put my DIN mount radio (in the now fixed in place bunk bed) the wires are nowhere near that location they are inside the cabinet over the sink the space between the cabinet doors is 5" so the only way a radio could be mounted was under the cabinet in that location. I can tell you there was ample wire (pre wired for 4 speakers) but really no room where the wiring came out of the ceiling and there was no provision for power either. Again mine is a T1700 not a 2953.

Mine were also in a cabinet over the kitchen sink area. I never noticed the speaker wires snaking down the inside edge of the cabinet, until I popped the floor of the cabinet up to run some wires for another project. Then I noticed them all coiled up under the base.
