Sorry for the long time between post guys. We just got back from an extended trip up to Northern Ontario and touring the North Shore of Lake Superior. I have also done a number of mods to the trailer but have not had a chance to address this issue with the stat yet. I will probably not get back to it until sometime in September. I just don't want you to think I have been ignore this post.

Thanks for getting back to us and glad you have had some great camping adventures. Northern part of Lake Superior? H’mm where about?

Have traveled the Trans Canada several times hauling a bunch of canoe eager Boy Scouts (and Leaders) in route to Quetico and White Otter Wilderness canoe areas. Driving that Trans Canada and seeing Lake Superior just pop up is breathtaking…. It is sort of like a fresh water ocean….

Now the AC unit…. Can’t let this one get the best of ya yet… We have to at least figure out “why”???

Happy camping

John

John,

We traveled up along the east and then north shore of Lake Huron until we got to Sault Ste Marie and then followed the Trans Canada Hwy along the North Shore of Lake Superior Kakabeka Falls which is just west of Thunder Bay. We came back home via Timmins, Ontario. We stayed at all Ontario Provincial Parks on the trip.

One of hte parks we stayed at is a former World War II POW camp for captured German Soilders during the war. If you are interested, here is the article about the camp and park. Most people are unaware of this.

Anyways, once we get settled back in again, I will take another look at the Thermostat and run the test you did and then post the results.

I think now the link that is in the first post is broken. I cannot go to the specified site. I want to see the pictures of Digital Thermostat and Stove Top Cover and see how to customize my own in my trailer. I am planning to renovate our trailer and make it more comfortable during long camping days also I am searching for alternatives to make it more modern.

Trailblazer,
Did you have any luck getting your Hunter Thermostat to work? I tried today to hook up a Hunter 42999B and could not make it work. I followed the instructions in this post and could not make my furnace or A/C work. I reinstalled the analog and everything is fine.
I kinda messed up as I didn't mark down the wires on the old t stat before I took them off the terminals, I did hook it back up and it seems to work right.

My TT wires are the same as a post made by TOYOURRSQ, they are not the normal colors.

Duo Therm color---------- Wire harness color----------- Duo therm term
Blue----------------------------- Blue---------------------------- H

Yellow--------------------------Dirty white-----------------------Y

Orange---------------------------Green--------------------------G

Red----------------------------Redish orange--------------------RC

Furnace--------------------------white----------------------------W

Furnace------12v------------------red---------------------------RH

I made the following connections on the Hunter

Taped off the Red 12 v

White from furnace to W

Dirty white to Y

Blue to wire from SPST switch hooked to G

Green to G

Redish wire to RC

I have the jumper on the RC/ RH

the switches are set right

My fan high low works but compressor wont start nor will furnace.

If anyone has any idea what I did wrong please let me know,I am baffled as to why it wont work.

The service where I had the photos is no longer online. I have checked through my files and at this time I have been unable to locate my copies of them. Sorry.

Since we dry camp most of the time we very seldom use the A/C. I decided to give up on the A/C part and just focus on getting better control of the heat. Last spring we did some April/ May camping and the TT was either to hot or too cold. I also figure it will help save propane and battery life.
I hooked up just the wires for the furnace to the Hunter and left the Dometic hooked to the A/C.
I hooked the 12 volt to the RH terminal and the white to the W terminal. The furnace fire right up and works great.

I just used a piece of velcro and place the Hunter right above my old thermostat.

Someday I may try and figure it out.

Thanks Trailblazer for the reply

Sorry for not posting sooner, but with the move of the server I was unable to post on the forum for the past couple of days. The problem you described is the exact problem I was experiencing. I was never able to solve this problem and was planning on doing more research and testing into it this year based on the information provided by John. However, we have now purchased a 2003 Sunline 5th wheel and soon will be listing our T2753 for sale. As a result I plan on doing the digital mod on the 5'ver and will just leave the analog themostat in the T2753.

Since you are having the same problem as I did, it would be great if your could pickup where I left on and do the test posted by John and post the results. I think it would be great to finally come up with a solution to this mystery.

This is an interesting. Technically your should of hooked the ground to the RH an White to the W terminal as the units are suppose to be a negative ground switched. I have some friends who accidentally hooked there units up like this fried there circuit boards on the furnace and burnt out a good chunk of wiring. If you did this and it works, it makes me think your unit may be positive switched and not negative switched and would change how you would wire up the thermostat. JohnB what is your thought???

Bob

By any chance can you post some pic of your wiring?

If the system works on the old Dometic, it should work on the Hunter. Take a pic of the Hunter PC board too I can tell if they have changed it.

The Hunter is a relay output, it is nothing more then a electronic jumper.

Also what are the model numbers of the AC control box? Pull the suction vent off, look up and on the silver control box is a model and serial number of the AC control unit. I can look up that unit to make sure it is of the same new vintage. Or take a pic of it I can zoom in on the part numbers.

I'm travling for work until late Friday night but will check in then

Thanks

John

Just did the digital Thermostat install on the 5'ver and it worked perfectly. Still don't know why this wouldn't work on the TT but at least I was able to get it working on our current unit.

Bill, glad to hear that install worked out. Did you use the Hunter this time? I'm guessing your 5er isn't CSA so that's an interesting solution--if the thermostat doesn't work, buy a new trailer

Yup, got it working by buying a new trailer. Definitely a very expensive solution. I ending up using a Honeywell non programable digital thermostat I purchased at Princess Auto as I had given the Hunter away to a friend who wanted try the mod on his trailer.

If, I put a toogle switch in the blue wire it should act as a high-low switch correct...When it's off it would run in low fan and when the switch is on it should be high fan...

Hi Sunline-SE

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us.

Here is the wiring diagram. When the blue wire goes to gnd (DC common) the fan runs hi. When it is open and floating, it is running low.

Yes, if you put a toggle switch in that blue wire it will act as a hi/lo switch.

Hope this helps

John
