Clear Screen Door Slide

With me being so short in height, it always bothered me when I was sitting inside on the couch and was trying to see out the screen door. For some reason the Screen Door Slide section is a white piece of plastic. This drove me nuts, because I'd have to get up off my butt if I wanted to see what was going on. It seemed like what ever I was trying to see was always right in that section of my line of view.

Looking through the Camping World catalog, which is like Porn for me...LOL I noticed that they made a Clear Slide Section to replace the white plastic. For only $15.99, this had to be one of those items we had immediately.

Here's What it looked like Originally. This is what my view was while trying to look out the door. You can see that the white plastic slide section is right where I want to see.

Now with the Clear one in, I can see outside perfectly!! This is another one of those items that should come standard on all RV's!

One of my only worries with the clear section in, was it would be easy for people to see in the door. For some reason it's hard to see through the screen part from the outside, but I figured you would see right through the Plexiglas. Then when I went outside to look in, my worries were eased when I noticed the Plexiglas has a curve to it, so you don't see in! Perfect!!

Just thought I'd let everyone else know about this little gem of a aftermarket add-on. The old one popped out in a few seconds, and the new clear one was a hair larger on the stationary side. I just trimmed off the excess with a razor knife using the white one as a guide. Once trimmed, it popped right in and what do you know, Now I dont have to get off my butt anymore

Happy Camping
Pat

Darn Pat,

Now you've done it. Next time I'm in a camping world I'll have to get one of these. I have the top and bottom screen sections covered with plexiglass so that I can leave the door open with the AC or heat on(and not feel quite so guilty about wasting resources). But, like you I have the white slider and dislike it. It will be gone shortly

Kitty

We bought this item when we had the 1950 - we could not and I mean could not get the stationary piece out....so we only had the clear slide portion installed.....well we traded in the 1950 and all those little extras came off, we tried it on the 2499 and with a little muscle the stationary piece came out and now we too can see clearly now - oh wasn't that a song!

Good idea about the plexiglas Kitty. I think I might just get a few pieces cut for the same set-up.

I'd much rather be able to sit inside in the A/C when I have to work on the CPU, but still be able to have a good view.

I just love figuring out new ideas others have come up with.

Thanks for posting your review and pictures. I spotted this in the CW catalog a couple of weeks ago and was wondering whether or not it would work. On my next trip down to the US in a couple of weeks, I will be stopping by a CW to pickup this item.

We did the Plexiglas inserts last year for in order to keep the cool air in during A/C season and the warm air in during heating season while being able to leave the outside door open to let in the light. These clear panels will be a nice addition.

Pat

Pic's are the greatest! I continue to pick up tid bits of info on what Sunline changed out on the T2499 as the years went by.

On my 2004, the screen door did not have that solid panel. It was screen.

However the clear slider now has me thinking

Thanks for posting. Seeing each others camper is one of the great things about this site. Most all Sunline, all different. Even the same model.

John
John you also have "safety" bars on the bottomportion of the screen, in our (former) 1950 & new 2499 - the bars are not there! Something that I want to add, safety issue for the grandkids.

The screen doors on our 2005 T-280SR are exactly like John’s. Screen by slider and with safety bars. Our trailer was manufactured in August 2005.

Looks like the screen doors changed with the 2006 model year.

Kathy,

You may want to look at Screen Door Push Bar at Camping World or RV Toy Outlet (Wal-Mart may even have them), you may be able to install these as safety guards.

After visiting a Camping World store on a recent camping trip and find they did not have the clear panels in stock, I have ordered the panels online from Camping World. While waiting for the clear panels to arrive I have been looking at the screen door on my trailer and just wondering how difficult it will be to remove the fixed plastic panel that is currently installed. Can anyone tell me if I am correct in assuming I just have to remove the two screws that appear to be holding in the fixed panel and then just flex the panel to remove it from the door. Also for those that have already installed these panels, did the fit perfectly or did you need to trim them at all?

DH said he had to remove 4 screws and use some muscle to get the panel out and NO the fixed portion did not fit - we needed to cut it down.

I installed the clear panels on my T-1950 which I purchased from Camping World last weekend and love the extended view I have. The stop does not come with the kit so keep the one you have in place. I had to trim both pieces to fit. The stationary panel was both too wide and too long. The slider was too wide. I used a clamped down steel straight edge and a matt knife to make the cuts. The existing panel was difficult to remove. Use a flat knife to insert between the panel and door frame piece to break the glue away and it comes out nicely. It took maybe an hour and looks good.

I would like to thank everyone for their replies. My clear panels arrived today from CW and I am planning to install them this weekend. I have already done a test fit and yes I am going to need to trim them slightly to fit. I did notice the kit did not come with any weather stripping to fill in the gap between the inside and outside panels. I was just going to go to the local hardware store and purchase some foam weather stripping with the sticky back to fill in the gap. I was wonder what everyone else did to fill in this gap.

We didn't use any weather stripping - that I recall ! Correct me if I'm wrong everyone!

The solid clear panel will not need any as it will fill the void from the solid white one....the other just slides.

The only weather stripping I saw was on the vertical post at the end of the stationary panel. This closed the gap between the sliding panel and the stationary one. I simply re-set the post with the new stationary panel with the two existing screws top and bottom.

I installed the clear panels this past week while we were on our camping vacation. The entire process took me about 30 minutes to complete. Once I took out the white panels I saw the weather stripping I was asking about was installed on the panel stop which I needed to reuse. The difference the clear panels make is remarkable. I took some pictures of this mod along with some others that I did and will try and post them on my website over the next week.
