Bunk bed turns to shelf/storage?

Not sure i'm in the right category...
My 1350 has a bunk over the dinette that i'd like to use as cabinet space but when it's closed up (as a cabinet) the middle piece blocks the opening 3/4 of the way and makes the cabinet almost useless, and very difficult to keep things in.

I removed the middle panel, the panel that actually folds in two and flips upward to block the cabinet opening, to see if that would work, and then the front panel facing outward no longer fit into the latches to hold it up!

i'm wondering if it's supposed to used as a cabinet/storage instead of a bunk, how do you make it useful? am i latching it wrong? or folding it up wrong? i tried to fold it several ways, but only the one worked. am i missing something?

That's what I did to my T1700 took the middle section out and fixed the front to the frame where the strap was and put a modern stereo in the center. The only thing I would ever use it for would be storage. I don't know about your's but mine had two doors all ready in it for storage when the bunk was folded up.

when i did that the front no longer fit into the locks on the top of the side walls to hold the front to the frame. it was slanted-top forward- and it needed another 4 inches for the front to reach the back panel (shelf "bottom") mine is just one long compartment. no middle section for stereo, but does have the 2 doors, so lookslike it should work the way i want.
mainah, did you have to put new holes in the side walls to hold up the front panel? (mine already has locks like i mentioned before that slide into the side walls when the bunk is "up.")

What about leaving it open and using baskets or bins to hold you stuff?

No, mine had 3 sections and all though when it was folded up there was little space to store things it was intended to do so. The front was held up right with a strap. Once I removed the center section the face would stand upright and I fixed it to the overhead. I try to post a picture for you.

thanks mainah. pic would be great. mine also has a strap but the top locks make it more secure in my camper. i could see w/the strap there would be little storage space left. which is why i tried for the locks. and with the strap the front panel is slanted.

I just removed the folding bunk added a fence to hold back any thing i store there, only 6" deep but sure holds a lot. after the mod made the inside look BIGGER, so did this to both front and rear bunks!

This is what I had to work with there were three sections on the bottom I removed the center one so it did not double up inside then I fastened it to the over head behind so that it was fixed in place. If you are wondering about the lights there are LED's and custom flush mounts I made.
