A word of caution to those of us with center tension rafters.
A second caution.....if you lower one arm to allow rain to run off, the water will catch on the center rafter causing it puddle in the awning. Been there, done that, snapped the roller right through the center rafter hole. Usually put it up in rain, but that's what happens when the drizzle turns into a downpour, shortly before the tornado goes through the campground.

A brand new RV beside us hand their arms off the brackets and the arms when over the roof causing extensive damage, including flooding of the interior.

I'm looking at this tie down system. don't depend on single anchor stake.

I had better luck with this model anchor. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-42021-A...=awning+anchor

It has no anchor lines to dodge. Werked well in sandy soil. If wind is strong enuff to pull it out of the ground you will have more problems than the awning.

Yep.... same thing happened to us. I was sitting outside with my Honey and his friend (an experienced camper).

I say, "Hey, don't you think we ought to put up the awning? It's windy."

"Nah," they said.

I went inside the camper, and not 3 minutes later, heard what you probably heard... the thud of the awning whipped up on top of the trailer.

Fortunately, we had minimal damage, and quickly went to the store to get the tie downs. Now, I DEMAND we use them EVERY time.

I'm wondering if something like this might be an even better investment. By the time you buy two of the "claw" tie-downs or 4 of the "bolt" tie-downs, you'd be in the same price range as this one:
