Attaching leveling jacks

I have another simple question. (Am I allowed two in one night?)

I purchased the BAL leveling jacks from CampingTime for my trailer. I would like to go ahead and attach them to the trailer. Any thoughts on using the 'self tapping' screws that came with them? Or should I use bolts with nuts and lock washers? I would like to make sure those things stay on the trailer!

Thanks in advance for your responses!

David

We had an extra set of BAL Scissor Jacks installed on the 2499, and they screwed them on with the supplied self tapping screws.

We've had them for a few months now and they seem to work great. We added them as extra jacks right in front of our wheels for extra support, and it makes a world of difference

Might want to pre-drill a smaller hole to start the screw

Good Luck
Pat

You could drill and place one bolt with nut & washer in addition to the self tapping bolts, Or have a spot weld put on two sides of mount, Just be sure it's a spot weld in case you ever need to remove one for any reason!!!!

I put them on our previous Sunline wiht nut, bolts, and lock washers. Lasted 7 years and 40,000 miles with no problems.

My preference is to use bolts so they can be removed if needed. I just don't want them to fall off either.

Thanks,
David

I've been in touch with LCI about getting a 3rd set of jacks to match the original ones that came with the coach. When I put them on, I plan to weld them. I like that idea better than drilling holes in the frame. The ones that came with the coach are welded on from the factory.

My trailer has plates at the front and rear of each side. My plan is to use the plates. They have holes that I hope will line up with the holes on the jacks. I hope to do this in the next night or two.

Later,
David

Try these. They will not vibrate loose. They are called Nylock Nuts. They have a small strip of nylon on top of the normal nut. Can find them in most good hardware stores. And they can be removed. Just you will have to crank all the way on and off.

Good luck

John

David,

Speaking from experience, you will be very happy with bolts. Some of my previous Sunline's have had the unfortunate experience to go through sand trails and get very dirty. So, in order to make the jacks work good, they have to be removed, cleaned, and regreased. I went to remove one one time and the bolt broke right in the frame rail. I haven't had to mount jacks on another Sunline yet, but if and when I do, it'll be with bolts.

Jon

I finally got around to bolting on the leveling jacks. I did use the nylon nuts. Now there is one less item to make sure I have in the camper or truck before I leave!

Next task is to install the new Prodigy Brake Controller that arrived today.

Thanks for the comments.

Later,
David
