adding 12 v circuit

i have a sunline 2553 with a wfco 8955 converter --- i want to add one 12 volt plug in the storage area and wish to have it on a separate circuit.

i have read the booklet that came with the trailer - does anyone know if there is another space available for a new circuit? and if so, is it somewhat easy to complete?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

If there is an empty 12 vdc fuse position, you're probably all set. I have a different convertor, but they are all pretty similar. Mine had one empty fuse position, but the 12 vdc was live so all I had to do was run the new wire from the fixture I was adding back to the convertor and hook it to connection already there. I popped in the appropriate fuse, and voila, I was set.

Good luck.

Adding circuits

I added a circuit to my rig and purchased a fuse bloc from Radio Shack, attaching it to the top of the converter and running a 12 volt supply lead to one side of the fuse holders and wiring each circuit off the other side.

Barring this you can always put an in line fuse holder in the hotside of each new circuit.

I'm just curious. What would you use a 12v plug for?

Portable DVD player
Satellite Radio Receiver (XM or Sirius)
12vdc lights - we have several of them, work lite and reading lite.
Some laptops have 12vdc chargers available.
Recharge your cell phone.
Any other item you have that uses a 12vdc cigarette lighter plug.

well i want a 12v plug on the drivers side as that is where the water inlte is for the water tank ---- we have a 5 gal container that we fill and i use a small pump to pump the water from it into the trailer tank.

the pump i was using used batteries and didn't last long --- so i purchased a small bilge pump that i can put down intot he container, plut it in to the 12 v plug and let her pump into the tank.

easier than standing there holiding the tank up while it drains by gravity ---- we don't alway have clearance on the drivers side of the trailer to put a table or back the truck in to place the water contianer on --- so this is just a quick fix to it all.

i also have a couple of outside lights that are 12 v and will be able to plug them in and toss the cord over to the passenger side under the trailer so we can use them when we don't have 120 v

All of the above plus:

Recharge my Coleman lantern
Recharge my Ipod
Recharge my weather radio
use my portable air compresser for many purposes.
use my 12v vacuum cleaner
Satellite radio boombox, my tuner cradle is hard wired inside.
Plug in a battery condition meter which is in percentage of charge

Note: I mostly dry camp so everything I bring camping is rechargable at least from 120v such as flashlight batteries and camera batteries. Recharging is on my "going camping checklist". I don't buy expensive batteries in bulk anymore.
