2" Recevier mounted on at back of trailer

Has anyone mounted a 2" receiver on the back of there trailer. I would like to mount one to the frame of the trailer. I have a bike carrier that works with a 2" reciever hitch. I would like to add it to the Sunline.

Somewhere on this forum, I posted a bunch of pictures of the way ours is welded on.

They tied it onto the frame and then added a few cross supports. We carry a dual sport motorcycle on the back of ours. If I could redo it, I might add either two 2" receivers, or three to really stop the wobbling.

This is one I saw which is what we might have ours changed to.

If you were only going to carry pedal bikes, then one would probably do.

I noticed in your sig that you have a 1950 while Pat has the notoriously tongue heavy 2499. The 2499 has virtually no storage behind the rear axle and all water and waste is carried ahead of the axles. I don't know where the water and waste is on a 1950, but noticed on the floorplan that it has a rear bath...

You need to know the axle and tongue weight of rig loaded as you would normally travel. Then seriously contemplate what might happen to those numbers, TW especially, if you were to hang a couple hundred pounds of bike plus carrier off the back. A light tongue will cause trailer sway.

My DRZ only weighs 240lbs and we have that much plus some on the tongue with the 4 6-volt batteries and the 3 solar panels. It evened the weight out perfectly

I'll be the first to admit that I dont really like how the camper pulls with the bike hanging off the back.

While we were in Mexico for two months this winter, we left the motorcycle in California because we couldnt get Mexican Insurance for it. I loved pulling the camper without the bike on it. It was the first time I had pulled it without the added weight

We plan on going home this summer and basically stripping everything off the camper, and completely redesigning the way we haul stuff.

It's amazing how much you realize you dont use when traveling full time. We use the motorcycle, but would rather haul it in the bed of the truck rather than off the back of the camper. So we're going to work on that.

That is how I haul my KLR. It goes in the back of the Dodge. It works out pretty well. I use a large ramp and just drive it up the ramp. I use one strap on each side of the front forks and use one across the back of the bike. It is pretty easy.

If I can find a used one cheap enough, we're thinking of taking off our stock bed on the truck, and getting a Utility Bed with locking boxes. This will solve the hassle of where to put everything we keep in the bed, everything will be locked, and we'll still have enough room to put the motorcycle back there.

That's if we can find one cheap enough. I've been pricing these units out, and OMG are they expensive!!

If we get one, I'll make sure to post plenty of shots so you can get some ideas

Hey Pat...we'll be looking for those pictures. We'd really like our 3 bicycles locked inside the truck. And with the layout of the 2753 we really don't want anymore weight on the back of the camper. There's no way to balance it out by adding weight in the front. And with the front window we can't block that with a front bike rack.

Hey Pam, if you were only using the camper for weekends and short trips, then I would get a cap for the back of the truck and keep the bikes locked up inthere.

This makes great sense as it keeps them out of the elements, locked up and out of sight, and doesnt involve anything hanging off or needing to be mounted to the back or front of your Sunline.

This is another reason we are planning on reorganizing everything. Weight has become the enemy with fuel prices, and we're actually thinking about finding either a lighter wieght camper, or going to the bare minimum of what we bring with us.

If we move the rig, it costs us $200 per day right now

Hey again Pat. Tweety will be our full time rig within a couple years...or as soon as I can get Steve to quit this whole job thing. And just a data point for you - when we towed the QUE we got 16 mpg with The Beast, and when we upgraded to the Tweety / Beast combo we now get 13.3 mpg.

I wasnt complaining when we were on the East Coast ad fuel was still around $2 a gallon.

Here on the west coast, we're averaging around $5 per gallon for diesel, and the mountains are killing our fuel mileage

Start looking for ways to convert the truck to veggie oil or some form of cheap fuel right now, so when you do hit the road, you can afford it

Fear not... I fueled up at the Flying J in Carlisle PA(cheapest around) last week before heading to Mexico, PA...$4.72/gallon

I wish I had some more time to spend on setting myself up with biofuel... if the day was only longer...

I hope you can find what your looking for to optimize your traveling between having the amenities you want and the mpg efficiency you seek. I hope if you do decide get a new TT it says "Sunline" on the front.
