Hi Everyone:

Just got back from the Eastern M&G, what a great time. Wanted to pass on some things we did and learned for next year, that we may want to do at the Fall M&G

Set up a schedule / agenda for everyone to meet and eat meals together, such as:

Saturday Breakfast: meet @ 9am; everyone bring eggs & their favorite ingredients for omelets.
Jon’s parents taught us how to make omelets in a freezer zip lock bag put in boiling water. You need freezer zip lock bags, Pam spray, and pots of boiling water (besides the eggs and ingredients). A lot of fun and they tasted great too.

Saturday Dinner: meet @ 5pm, everyone bring a side dish / desert to pass. Individuals responsible for own meet. We all meet at a local spot with our grills, cooked, eat & had fun. We had a lot of food. With 6 units so far, it could be 3 for side dish, 3 for desert.

Sunday Breakfast: meet @ 9am; maybe everyone bring ingredients for pancakes

Come up with a plan or suggestion of activities for Saturday during the day.
I’m not sure what Nick’s Lake has to offer.
At the Eastern M&G, a bunch of us went kayaking on the spire of the moment, which was great fun. We all talked about doing it again next year, but planning and coordinating it with the campground so it's set at a specific time and we might be able to do a longer trip.

Just some thoughts and ideas to share with everyone.
We're looking foward to meeting everyone.
Hutch

We had such a great time at the eastern M&G that we're VERY tempted to come to this one too, but it's a 6 hour drive from Sinking Spring, PA. We'll probably wait until the last minute and see how the weather looks, and see if it's a good time for DH to take a couple extra days off work.

Steve,

That's "Judy" & Mike. You were close though. It's good to see the group is gaining in size. Sounds like the PA M&G was a huge success.

Hutch, I'm all for paddling adventures. Nick's is a nice lake to paddle with no power boats to compete with. There are also plenty of bike trails in the area, although the uphill ride back to the CG can be challenging. There is also a nice hiking trail around the lake. We're looking forward to this trip.

Mike

FYI - Sites 40 & 48 show up as reserved on Reserve America, but actually these sites are reserved for walk-in only on a first come basis.

For the reaming sites open; Reserve America indicates trailer length capability & type as:
Site 41 - 0' back-in
Sites 46 & 54 - 20' back-in
Sites 49 & 51 - 30' back-in
Site 53 - 40' back-in

If these are accurate indications for handling trailer lengths in these sites Steve, Kathy (Poppa & Nana), and/or Mike (mbart5fan) may know better.

If anyone that's been to Nick's Lake before has a picture of their site, it would be nice if they could post it. I would be interested in seeing what the sites look like.

Mike - paddling in October has to be cold . I’ll have to give that some though.
Went kayaking for the first time at the Eastern M&G, loved it, had a great time. But the temps were in the 90’s. Any places to rent kayaks in the area?

Hutch

Yes Tickner's will rent and deliver to the site....I'll try to check out prices and post them.

Also - McCauley Mtn chair lift is open that weekend.....takes you to the top of the ski mountain, there are some trails around the top and the view is beautiful, especially with the changing of the colors (if the leaves haven't all fallen by then).

My apologies to Judy, and that is all fixed. Sorry.

The Moose River is also an interesting paddle, and only a few miles away.

[If memory serves (and it may not), site 41 is one of several smaller sites on the inside of the loop. Those with a T-1950 or smaller could get in there OK.

49 & 51 are conservatively rated. I've seen good sized trailers on both.

There are several places down on Route 28 in Old Forge and Thendara to rent canoes and kayaks. Mountain Man is one, but there are others.

You want pics of sites? Here ya go:

Us in 2005 on a site in B Loop, but looks just like Site 38:

Same site in B Loop - looks pretty much the same from Site 37 looking at Site 38:

Site 38 from the front:

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for getting and posting the information.

It would be nice to do a group activity on Saturday that would be relaxing and give us time to talk and get acquainted with each other.

We would be up for a boat tour, railroad, or kayaking.

Do you think we would need to book something ahead of time?

As far as getting off work on Saturday, don’t you feel a cold coming on?

Hutch

This sounds like a great idea - there is so much to do, we just have to find out what everyone wants to do!

I don't think we would need reservations for anything except golf and maybe the canoes/kayaks....won't need them for the boat tour or train ride.

Hutch
Oh by the way - friends of ours (Don & Vanessa) are camping in Loop C that weekend also...I told him he'll be surrounded by "good campers", he just laughed! I hope you all don't mind an "outsider" joining in on the fun!

Remember, I did come in a non-Sunline, but I did bring part of mine...I brought the rock guard. I'll admit it wasn't out on Saturday night, but it was out on Friday.

Here's some pics of my now happy trailer with its rock guard re-installed. It has more of a reason to be happy now that I got the title transferred today, plus a new plate:

We really like the train rides, and they're perfect for getting better acquainted. We can all sit together in one of the passenger cars.

The group meals would be good too. They don't have an open area with a community tent in the loops however. The picnic area is at the far end of the park, and doing a group meal there would be an exercise in logistics in getting cookers, etc. down there. It's no a two minute walk back to your trailer for that forgotten bottle of mustard.

But given the number of folks attending, it would not be hard to move a picnic table or two and have the group meals right on someone's site. We can talk about that more as we go along. I know that can have its own issues, too.

(I do have two 12'x12' heavy duty dining flys and a 10'x10' easy up type shelter - given the time of year, it will probably be advisable to have some shelter.)

Gail and I are heading up to Fish Creek Ponds first thing on Saturday (the 11th) for 15 days of life in the Sunline. See you all when we get back.

Could we use an unoccupied site within the loop for group meals & group camp fires?
