2011 Midwest M&G - May 20-22, 2011 - Hillsdale, MI

Hi Everyone,

WHAT: 2011 Sunline Owner's Club Midwest Meet & Greet
WHEN: May 20-22, 2011
WHERE: Gateway Park Campground, 4111 West Hallett Road, Hillsdale, MI, 49242
WHO: You! We'd like to see as many members as possible! Family & friends are also welcome to attend.
WHY: Because you want to meet other Sunline owners who have a common bond as well as learn more about your coach!

Campground Address: 4111 West Hallett Road, Hillsdale, MI, 49242

RESERVATIONS: Contact Michelle or Tim Wilcox at (517) 437-7005. Mention that you are part of the Sunline group. We stay in the pull through sites, though you can reserve a back-in if you wish, but it will be farther away from the rest of the group. PLEASE POST IF YOU'VE MADE A RESERVATION HERE, along with the site number and nights you'll stay, so we can keep track of who is coming and for what days.

RATES: The rates for the pull throughs were $39/night in 2010. Back ins were $35/night in 2010. Rates will probably raise slightly for 2011, so make sure to check the website for the latest rates. There are also electric only (cheaper) sites available, but these are away from the group area as well.

DISCOUNTS: I believe Gateway accepts the usual type of discounts, Good Sam, AAA, etc. Again, check with Gateway for the most up-to-date information.

ONLINE RESERVATIONS: You may make online reservations, but make sure to include that you are part of the Sunline group in the comment section.

MEET & GREET ACTIVITIES: We usually have community pot-luck meals and community campfires together on someone's site. They are rain or shine, because Gateway has an enclose recreation hall available to us in case of bad weather. Otherwise, we have coach tours, maintenance how-to's, emergency repair help, and just general meeting and greeting. The atmosphere is very laid back and enjoyable, so attendees are welcome to do participate in as little or as much as they want.

THE AREA: The area has interesting things to offer. The main draw to the area is the Michigan International Speedway, which is about a half hour away. We chose the weekend here based on it not typically being a race weekend, because getting reservations at the park is difficult then. Other area attractions are the City of Hillsdale, Hillsdale College, and the City of Jonesville. Both cities, especially Hillsdale, contain a lot of history. Both cities contain some good restaurants too.

SHOPPING: There is a Wal-mart about five miles away for all those forgotten items. They also have food there as well. There is a Tractor Supply across the street from that too. It is located just south of Jonesville, between Jonesville and Hillsdale on M-99. From Gateway, take Hallett east to Lake Wilson Road (about 1.1 miles), then turn north on Lake Wilson Road. Take Lake Wilson about 3.5 miles, where it will dead end into a stop light and M-99. Continue across M-99 and into the strip mall parking lot containing Wal-Mart. If Wal-mart doesn't have what you need, the closest big city with the large box stores/malls is probably Jackson, MI, which is about an hour away. Depending on the store, you might find it in Coldwater, MI, which is about a half hour away. There is an RV dealer in Hillsdale if you need a part not available at Wal-mart.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact myself or any of the previous Midwest M&G attendees.

Jon

Our daughter’s graduating from college that week-end. So unfortunately, we won’t be able to join you again next year.

Hope everyone has a good time and maybe in 2012 we’ll be able to join you again.

Hello;
We are planning on attending this year.
We have the camper working well with our new roof even though it does not look like the one put on at the factory, it now has a slope to it.
We hope to see all there as we were unable to attend last year.

I'm actually headed down to Jonesville tomorrow night, but I've been too busy to get a chance to reserve 21 again. One of these days, soon!

This year is complex for us. Son getting married in early June and work is in overload which is a good thing as it pays for our camping habit... Providing we can get to camp.... We should know for sure in about 2 weeks if we are a go or not this year.

Isn't it a proven fact that taking a little time off to camp enables you to perform better at work?

Just need to convince the boss.

A study done back in the seventies by The Center for Mental Health proved that the relaxation of the mind and variety of mental activity given by camping, outside the normal comfort zone, improved productivity speed and quality. Camping is physical exercise for the mind to prevent carpeltunel of the brain. The study in support of camping was also supported by The Society of Physical Therapists by proving the relief from repetitive motion relieved and prevented carpeltunel and gave a increased energy upon returning to the comfort of a known, normal working environment. Ofcourse all tests were approved and supported by Federal Funding of the Department of the Interior for enjoyment of the exterior.

What is everyone planning for the food picture for Friday night and Saturday?
We will be bringing some smoked ribs and Orange Peach Burbon BBQ sause, and Aspairgus if it keeps growing, and Angela is baking a Gluten Free Carrot Cake, YUM YUM, I like it better than the ones she used to make with regular flour. I asumed these would be for Friday night Potluck. What to bring for Saturday? Are we just going to do another bring what ever, or is some one planning a menu?

The link to the Carrot Cake, below. We use King Arthur GlutenFree Multi-Purpose Flour. You can buy it on line, I buy it in large quantities, 6 boxes per case. We also use the King Arthur Gluten free Muffin mix for muffins and pancakes or to make my own cake doughnuts, and the King Arthur bread mix in our bread machine. We like King Arthur's best because it is finer and more like real flour. We do not like the King Arthur Pancake mix as well as it has too much Nutmeg in it. If you live near a Whole food Store, they stock it I think. It is a little more expensive but I feel it is worth the price. Tweety,
You will love the gluten-free carrot cake. Jack was right when he said it is better than regular carrot cake! It was better yet, since it had lots of nuts but no raisins. It's strange how our likes change as we age. When I was a kid, raisins were one of my favorite snacks - now I pick them out of everything.
We did enjoy the time spent with fellow SOC members, even though we were unable to bring our Sunline and stay for the weekend. Hopefully, next year the pull-through sites can be filled like before and we can enjoy the great weather from this year.
