We just reserved site #50 from Tuesday thru Monday (leaving Sunday afternoon). I'm going up early to get the rain out of the way before the weekend!

We're all set. I just reserved Site 38, arriving Friday the 23rd as early as we can check in, and departing on Monday the 25th.

There are still lots of sites available, so if you are thinking about joining us, you've still got some great sites to select from.

Could you make some specific site or loop suggestions Steve? I'll talk to the Boss (aka Minister of Finance), and see what she says about a late September camping trip to Old Forge. Boy, it has been ages since I've been to Old Forge.

Is this a place to bring a small powerboat? If not, we don't need a very big site for one of our vehicles and a Sunspot! If we bring the powerboat though, we'll need room for two vehicles, the Sunspot and the boat. there is power available at these sites right?

Frank

Frank,

The M&G is in Loop C. There are still 6 sites available in the loop as I write this, and your Sunspot and TV will fit into even the smallest of them.

Nick's Lake is paddle power only. There are some lakes in the Old Forge area that are fine for power boats, but we find that we are so busy with the M&G that there isn't much time to take the boat elsewhere. We do bring our canoe and try to get out on Nicks Lake every year.

Like all the DEC parks inside the Blue Line, there are no hook-ups. But C Loop has the nicest bathroom/shower building that I have ever seen anywhere.

Thanks Steve.

Hey Steve, you need to come down to Pa and see the bath houses at Promised Land State Park. They probably could've built a whole new campground for the money they spent on 3 bath houses. And we also have one of the most expensive restrooms in the country, thanks to the US government. 1 men's toilet and 1 women's toilet, no sink, no running water, just 2 toilets, only $800,000. Gotta love how the government spends our tax money.

Once again, the pickin's are getting slim, so rather than lose the (potential) prime waterfront site #55, it's ours from Tuesday 'til Sunday. Doug, how about leaving the rain behind this year. I'm sure Larry & Wendy would really appreciate not having that river run through their front yard.

Sites are going fast!

As of right now, 9 of the sites in C Loop are already reserved by SOC folks.

Two more sites are non-reservable: 40 & 48.

Three sites are reserved by folks unknown: 39, 42, & 44.

Five sites are still wide open (including arrive early or/or stay late): 41, 43, 46, 49, & 51.

Anyone who already is coming, the days before and after your reservations are pretty much wide open at the moment so if you wanted to arrive early or stay late, you could add reservations now, or watch Campsite Availability Calendar - NICKS LAKE CAMPGROUND, Ny - ReserveAmerica - [NY] to see the extra days that remain open. That time of year, there aren't many weekday walk-ins anyway.

As I write this (4/4/11 7:13 PM), Site 49 in C Loop has been reserved by someone. If it is a SOC member, please let us know so we can keep a reasonably accurate list of who will be there.

Sites 41, 43, 49, and 51 are still available.

Reservation information at: Campsite Availability Calendar - NICKS LAKE CAMPGROUND, Ny - ReserveAmerica - [NY]

The M&G is "officially" Friday afternoon 9/23 to Sunday morning 9/25 (that is two nights of camping.) Many of us will either be coming in earlier in the week and/or staying over to Monday or beyond.

As in the past, we have an extra site for Friday afternoon through to Sunday morning. Mike has a big tarp so we set up a shelter for all of us and will have group meals, campfire, etc. there. For all new attendees, we all pitch in to pay for this group meeting site. Last year, it was $5 or $6 per couple. Kathy (Poppy & Nana) takes care of that for us every year.

Please read this whole thread if this is your first time joining us as there are a number of helpful tidbits spread across the various messages.

A brief summary:
1. Like all DEC campgrounds in the Adirondacks, Nicks Lake has no hookups (regardless of what pwb01 says. ) There is a really nice bathroom and shower building in the center of the loop and it does have electricity for hair dryers and such.
2. There are water spigots every few sites all around the loop. You can't connect to them for the whole weekend, but most of us have "water thieves" for connecting temporarily to fill up our fresh water tanks.
3. There is a dump station so you can dump your black and gray tanks when you leave.
4. There is also a recycling station and dumpsters by the dump station.
5. Generators are welcome but can only be run between 9 and 11 in the morning and between 4 and 7 in the afternoon.
6. The lake itself is paddle power only.
7. It will be early autumn in the Adirondacks. The weather can be just about anything so plan accordingly.
