2008 Adirondack M&G

Checking to see what would be best for everyone to come back to the Adirondacks?

2008 Adirondack M&G

Kathy:

October is good for us and I liked Nicks Lake. There is a lot to do, it's not that far away (at least for us) and being together in our own loop was like having the place all to ourselves.

Kathy,

The Columbus Day weekend would not be good for us again. We have a granddaughter that needs Gramma and Grampa there for her party next year. But, don't plan around us on picking a weekend.

And, we're always up for a weekend at Nick's Lake.... Lots to do, and one of the most pleasant campgrounds in the southern Adirondacks.

Hi Kathy,

October at Nicks Lake is good for us.

We liked Loop C and would vote for trying to get in the same loop again next year.

One suggestion, if people wanted to get closer we could always try to get sites in Loop C and Loop B that back up to each other (for example, Loop C sites 37, 38, & 39 and Loop B sites 35, 33, & 32)

Columbus Day

Kathy,

I checked the calendar and it looks like next year that Columbus Day (observed) falls on Monday, 10/13. Would we try that weekend so some could make a long weekend of it?

I like the 3rd of October too. Makes for a great end to a season of camping and Nick's lake is a great campground. I see "Caravans" in parks this week near Cork Ireland as I'm here on business. They must have a much longer season here however it's only in the 50's here too.

To be honest with you - I figured on October 3rd weekend (weekend before Columbus Day) - if you all were her the 12 - 13 & 14th - you would have froze....it was really cold and nasty!

One week can make a world of difference!

If everyone likes Nick's Lake - I'll mark my calendar and remind everyone when it is nine months to the next Adirondack M&G! If people would like to look into someplace different - I can do that in the spring when most places re-open!

I was thinking of Kayuta Lake Campground (I think it is in Forestport) or Cold Springs (near Poland)....never been to either but friends say they are both real nice!

Hmmm. That weekend would probably work for us, and you are right, the first week of October is kind of like a real doorway into colder weather up there. Everybody who has been to Fish Creek Ponds the past couple of weeks reports the same changes.

We'd be up for either Nick's or another place. The private campgrounds tend to be able to cater to groups a bit better in most cases.

Kathy,

We would be open to a different campground. I’ll admit, we’re partial to full hook-up sites. But we enjoyed Nicks Lake and I think we would vote to go back there again next year.

I found a web site for Kayuta Lake Campground and their rates aren’t bad. But I think we like the area and things to do around Nicks Lake better.

My suggestion, pick the date - 1st week-end in Oct (i.e., Oct. 3 – 5th) and the place – Nicks Lake - Loop C, and say come if you can.
Plus – Nicks Lake, Loop C, 1st week-end in Oct. sounds like a tradition in the making.

Just my $0.02.

We'd like to try to come next year if it's in Oct. The June date is right before the PA M&G. I didn't vote for a place, but the pictures of Nick's Lake look beautiful.

Kathy,

We're OK with the first weekend of Oct. We prefer Nicks Lake over Kayuta or Cold Springs CG's. We've stayed at both in the past and although nice, they are much more crowded than Nicks.

Good point Tom. As far as full hookups, you could get with the guy that made multiple trips with the blue tank if your waste tanks get full, and some of us have generators if your batteries get low. Almost as good as full hookups.

Steve, we're still waiting for you to post a picture of the cake.

Mike

OK so here it is!

2nd Annual Meet & Greet
October 3-4 & 5, 2008
Nick's Lake, Old Forge, NY
Loop C or Loop D abutting sites in Loop C
(check out the map you got in your Goodie Bag!

I'll post nine months in advance, so we can lock in our sites!

I'll reserve two sites so we can have a "gathering site" again!

I'll be away the last week of September (again) and hopefully I'll get to spend the day with all of you on Saturday instead of sitting in a classroom!!!!!

Kathy

Pam, I picked June 6 & 7 as it was two weeks before PA M&G....BUT....we would be eaten alive with black flies in June......it might not have been the ideal weekend, but it was a weekend in the "spring".....we don't have summer until at least the end of June or the beginning of July!

Hope to see ya next October here in the beautiful Adirondacks!

Sounds like a plan! Count us in.

Tom, when your alarm goes off, any chance you could email me? My email system doesn't allow me to do reminders.

Thanks!

At a member's suggestion, I re-posted the M&G info on a 'Sticky Thread'!
