What's next ?

OK, We love our 06 T-1950 but wife is campaigning for a bit larger camper w/ a slide. I'll likely have to get a heftier tow vehicle also as our 4.7L Tundra doesn't seem like it wants to tow a much larger camper but what would you recommend post-Sunline ? We're thinking maybe 24-25ft & would like something equal to Sunline quality. Preference is for a walk around bed, table & movable chairs rather than banquette in slide, & a separate sofa. Tow behind, not a 5th wheel as need all room in pickup bed for "stuff"
So, let's hear some great suggestions, please. Very modest finder's fee or discount on used t-1950 for best advice taken. Thanx

Hi Glen,

Do you still travel for half the year in the camper? Reason for asking is durability of the next camper. When you said "equal to Sunline quality" that cuts out many brand campers. Need to make sure the camper will hold up to large travel distances and use.

Next is the tow vehicle. The camper and the truck need to match up well for that kind of distance traveling. If your current truck is taxed with the T-1950, going to a 24-25 footer can put you in a larger pulling truck.

Do you have any thoughts in mind of new or good used on both the truck or the camper?

Any ideas on floor plan that meets your needs? You said slide, what type of slide are your referring too?

A T264SR is a little longer at 27' 7" with a couch and dinette slide (super slide) and is a very nice and popular layout for 2 people. But, that size camper and "stuff" in the truck bed can reach a 3/4 ton truck real quick.

A slide that only has a dinette or couch that pops out is often a much smaller pulling wise camper. And these can fit into a "correctly" optioned full size pick up with the right engine, rear axle, payload package and tires. There are light weight campers out there now, but if you are doing a lot of distance, need to research the ones that will hold up.

Give us some thoughts on your likes, wants and can affords... list.

Hope this helps

John

Northwood products are very well made. We've been very happy with the quality of our Arctic Fox. They're one of the few manufacturers that you don't void the warrantee by living it full time. Even when that's not your plan, it does speak well for their product.

John
Thanx for the quick, intelligent, helpful reply.
Yes, we still use the Sunline 6 months/yr & travel extensively in it (In CA's Imperial Valley desert as I type) Understand most campers are constructed for odd weekend of use per yr but Sunline has held up very well & shows little sign of heavy use.
Both the trailer & truck bed are heavily loaded w/ stuff. Towing is fine on flats but I lose speed on hills. Assume I'd load a larger trailer w/ even more stuff thus thinking upgrade on 11 yr old tundra warranted. Thinking a new 5.7L tundra & new (or almost) camper.
Wife's been studying floor plans. A slide large enough to contain a small couch/sofa or table w/ movable chairs as you described would be ideal.
We've unfortunately eliminated thought of another Sunline as newest would still be 10+ yrs old.
As Tweety recommended (thanx, too for your reply) we're thinking about the better built rigs ie Northwood, Lance (now making tow-behinds), Heartland in 23-25' range
