Water System Appliance isolation

I had a water valve rupture on the 30 yr. old toilet (stamped May 27, 1982) in my 1983 T-1550.

This caused me to not be able to use the kitchen sink and bathroom sink because there is not shutoff valves for any of this items, including the toilet.

This makes no sense to me. What gives here....that I don't know? Cost savings, weight savings?

I guess I'm use to home plumbing.

Anyone else have this or do you have shutoff valves in your system.

Am I missing some location of isolating toilet from sinks, etc.?

Hi bunjin,

I have not seen a shutoff on any brand camper in the last 10 years. I have not looked prior to that so I cannot speak about the old ones. Sounds like this was an issue 30 years ago...

Cost and competences to the RV world is the only known reason I can think of to drive this decision. In the home, the home can be built to last a 100 years or more. Paying for shutoffs in a home is/should be standard practice. An average RV design life is how many years???

Amazingly with the level of RV grade robustness,...used in building a camper, there has not been more issues with end of use water devices. The towable RV bouncing down the road with no shocks or rubber suspension is a pretty rough environment.

I’m sure folks who full time in an RV see more failures of parts then the larger majority of weekend warrior campers. I have said this before, if the owner of an RV is not in some way, shape or form, have access to a person handy in repairs for free… do not buy an RV…

You can add no shutoffs to the list of other RV world short comings in longevity of useful life. I must admit, this is the 1st time I have thought about the lack of shutoffs. Don’t get me started on trailer running gear shortcomings….

John

Well it's a good bit more of a problem in a house at least you can just turn the pump off in the camper or the tap on the hose. In a camper I guess it would be just one more thing to freeze and where to put them so they would be easy to get to.
