Update on "KD" Kittys'Dog

I started a new topic about KD, as it originally started in one of the other theads

""But, have to deal with KD today, her gums are bleeding and have vet app. at 10, looks like she might need a dental & some teeth removed. My poor baby, she has never had really good teeth (common among greyhounds).

Well, gotta get ready to head to vet for first opinion.""

Update on KD

OK, for those that don't know, I have a rescued greyhound, "KD". Greys are prone to bad teeth & gums due to the crap food while they are at the tracks. KD has had bad teeth ever since I got her 3.5 years ago. She just turned 5 the end of November. She had a dental last december which required a lot of scraping to remove built up tartar. This year her breath got really bad & her gums were bleeding, so her dental was today, they do blood work first to make sure it is safe to knock her out.(Greys also have a different blood chemistry compared to other dogs). I dropped KD off at 10 am, got call at 1pm to ask me "IF" while doing her dental, they find it necessary to remove any teeth, could/should they do it right then, rather than have to knock her out again at a later date. I told them to remove what might be the problem, as I don't want her knocked out again. Got another call at 2pm, KD was fine, coming out of anesthesia, the dental cleaning went well, but 3 bad teeth had to be removed. I picked her up at 5PM, brought her home and had to go right out to a christmas concert at school. Got home at 8:30, and much to my surprise, KD came thru the doggie door and met us at the gate barking and jumping up. Once in the house I checked her mouth, NO signs of bleeding, so thought I'd make her some dinner (doubted that she'd eat) HA, she ate her dinner just fine, I guess missing teeth feels a whole lot better than infected gums. She is on an antibiotic for a week, and her one leg looks so sore where they had to shave her for the IV (Their skin is paper thin). But, she is my baby, she is OK and is now fast asleep with her head on a pillow. I will be able to sleep tonight without worrying about her.

Thank you all for the kind words. It is really amazing the tolerance for pain that she has. Getting into the truck to head to the '07 Buttonwood MnG, she tore her thigh open on the corner of the truck door, never even let out a whimper, I saw blood and that's how I knew she got hurt. Emergency trip to vet with Sunny in tow, she got knocked out, stitched out, and we continued on our way to Buttonwood. She is a really good low maintenance, low shedding, no doggie odor dog, that doesn't bark much at all. Like having a big cat around basically.
