Tire Pressure Monitor

Has anybody had any experience with tire pressure monitor systems? I've seen a lot of negative reviews for the Doran system. Any others out there?
Joe

We have a Pressure Pro system. I purchased it about 3 years ago to use on the '05 T-2499. Then it got moved over to the '03 T-320 and now it resides on the '03 F-311. I also purchased the sensors for the truck about a year after I purchased the first 4 or the 2499.

I have had no bad experience with the system. I memory serves me correctly it did alert us to a low tire once.

Gary will probably be along to add more to this topic, he details more stuff than I do

Thanks Kitty, Pressure Pro was the other mfg. that I was looking at and I got turned off with the amount of bad reviews for Doran. I'm planning a trip to Maryland in Sept. to attend a Navy ship reunion and am going to pull the trailer there. I've had bad tire experiences and don't want any surprises. I do have new Denman tires, but you never know when one is going bad until its to late.

Again, thanks
Joe

Joe,

Like I said, we have been happy with the Pressure Pros. Plus we (Gary) keeps tabs on the pressures, balance, age, wheel bearings, etc. We run the pressure at the recommended PSI stated on the tires. Currently our 5th wheel has LT tires on it, and it tows very well.

In all my cross country travels, I had 1 flat, and on another occasion one wheel bearing got toasted.

I use Aero 303 on the tires, and keep them covered when not on the road.

Sounds like you have a wonderful trip planned. I can't wait until Gary can take enough time off so we can take a nice cross country trip.

My brother has used a Doran for at least 5 years now, with no problems. We have been very satisfied with the Orange Electronics one. See my updated post on TPMS.

Joe:

Where in Maryland is your reunion taking place? We're located in Severn, MD about dead center in the Baltimore, Washington, Annapolis triangle, might be able to give you some things to do in the area.

What does a system typically cost for tow vehicle and trailer? Seems like a good idea.

Mack,
It's going to be held at Best Western Inn in Elkridge. But the tt will be at Cherry Hill RV park for the four days of the reunion. The USNA and Arlington are on the list with the old shipmates. The reunion ends Sunday, Sept. 19, however we'll be sticking around for a couple more days.

Norm,
From what I've seen these TPMS range from $185 for the "Orange" to $360 for Pressure Pro. You may find them cheaper tho.

Hello all,
We went with the "Truck System Technologies, Inc." system mainly because it also promises to monitor temperatures as well as pressures. I believe this is the same system sold by Camping World, and it can be expanded to monitor the TW as well, plus the spares.
I can't report on them, because I have not yet "synchronized" the sensors to the monitor.

Hey Joe,

How's it going, haven't heard from you in a long time, but I haven't had much time to be on the forum myself, so that could be most of the reason.

Your tire experience is what prompted me to get a tire monitor in the first place. Since we have very similar setups, I felt I better be pro-active to protect from a similar occurrence happening to me.

I have a Pressure Pro and WOULDN'T recommend it.
Nothing outrageous, but frequently the transmitters stop transmitting and we've gotten false alarms from time to time. Had one bad sensor that we needed to get replaced.

Have a safe and fun trip here to the East Coast.
If you have time, you should see if you can come up to NY and join us at one of the M&Gs.

Hutch

Roar,
Your monitor system looks nice; I checked it on their site. A nice feature is that you can start with as few as two sensors and expand it at will by two tires at a time for $50 per tire. Please report on them when you get it fully operational.

Norm,
Will do, but it will take a while.
Our plans for the summer have changed a bit, and the next trip goes to Scandinavia next week. Wish I could take TT and TW with me!

I talked with a rep from Truck Systems Technologies yesterday and the system sounds promising. One thing I like is that when the individual batteries on the sensors go bad, you can send them to the co. and they will replace the batteries and recalibrate the sensors and send them back to you for $25. With the other systems, you have to buy new sensors, which normally cost $50 each. The TSL TPMS batteries last for 5 to 7 years. I like that they also sense temperatures.
