The long lost sunline plaque re-creation.

Lore has it that sometime in the 1970's the sunline trailers had a plaque rather than a sticker on the front side panel with its rather plain logo at the time. I was given a picture of it and made a 3d model of it. Here is my rendition of it. As my 3D printer is limited to 8" across, its a bit smaller than what I believe is the correct size of around 10":

WOW.... Thanks Cool!

It is great you have the CAD, know how and access to the 3D printing to do this.

Thanks for sharing.

John

As a comparison to the original...

The one in the attached picture is the actual one used in the 2000 brochure main page. This was LaRue's baby.

For replacement purposes, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to just add another hole between the U to attach to the trailer, and then all other holes would be used too.

I added those other two flat pieces so I won't even need to do that. I will print with those other two flat pieces so that I can laminate the emblem into one piece so I won't even need too.

Humor a former English teacher here: In your graphic, the division on the word "Sunline" should come between the 'n' and the 'l', if possible. I do realize that graphically you may be up against some space considerations but once an English teacher...

well done, break on the syllables if possible, but the break shown is only for 3D printing purposes. once it gets created, you glue the two parts back together (and the spacing between the 'n' and 'i' will be correct,) and the two other flat pieces shown are used to strengthen the whole thing like plywood.

Typical 3D printers can only print 8"x8" In this way I can print the emblem as big as 16"x4"

Knowledge of English = pretty good; knowledge of 3D printers = non-existent. Learn something new every day. Neat process as you describe it. Thanks!

Here's a front and backside view of the 4 pieces put together.
the actual logo pieces butt up to each other and get glued, but that
would be a very weak spot, prone to snapping. So I printed a second
set of connector pieces (I colored them red for illustration purposes.)
the logo butts up together in the yellow circle, and the backing layer,
the red one, butts up in the red circle. the red backing pieces then glue
to the sun logo pieces along the whole length; as a result, there is
no weak spot at the butt joint.
