Thanksgiving in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Penny and I spent Thanksgiving at Myrtle Beach SP. (There is a review of this park on the reviews forum.) We have found our new beach destination. This park is wunnerful!
Situated just south of the town (It's actually within the city limits), the park is an oasis between the developments of MB and its southern neighbor, Surfside.
Coming into the park from a crowded US17, you meander along a live oak-shrouded road and feel yourself decompress. We had planned on dining out mostly, but we couldn't bring ourselves to leave the tranquility of our camp and venture into the hustle-bustle of the tourists.
The campground is large with over 350 sites, but there are many with an all-by-yourself feeling.

The beach is near and spacious. I went for a siwm as the water was still in the mid-60s.

No pool, no game room, none of that "resort" stuff, just lots of trees, dunes, nature trails, programs at the nature center, and peace.

My webshots page has the full album, if you want to see a surfside Santa and more pics of the park. If you have any questions, post here or PM me. There is much more to tell.

Wright

Very nice...thanks for the photos! If we can get the Tweety out of the driveway (provided we don't get snow) we'll be headed to Charleston, SC at Christmas I was already dreading the drive, but your pictures just gave me motivation!

Wright & Penny.... I needed those pictures......I'm sitting at home with about 4" of snow on the ground and a very dreary grey day - yes that is an accurate description of "winter" in the Adirondacks......definitely needed a picker upper!!!

Tweety,
I live in Carleston SC. Where are you camping? I assume it's James Island County Park.

Yep...site 8
I'll take any recommendations you have. Been to Jestine's for lunch. Did the carriage ride. Walked around near Trad St. and the Battery. Went to the big Oak. Went to Middleton Plantation and took their slave tour. Went to Charles Town Landing. Toured Nathaniel Russel House. Did the light show every night on bicycles before they shut down the trails

We want to go to the Tea Plantation this year, and Patriots Point, but beyond that we can use recommendations.

Here's a picker upper for you Kathy and Leo. With the T-1950 parked in the back yard, Sheri and I spent Thanksgiving on a beach in Haiti. They said the 90 degree weather figured in with a 5 mph breeze had a wind chill factor of 87. Brrrrr.

It looks like Mary was on the same beach a couple of days later with her sister, Tom stayed home. Sunshine without the Sunline

No snow here yet but I'm sure you're sending some down our way soon.

Its about an hour or so drive from your location, but make sure you check out the town of Beaufort It's where Forest Gump was filmed and very beautiful

There is also the Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach that is a cool day trip
