T2363 - going rustic camping for 1st time!

Going rustic camping for the first time. Any suggestions on what to do or not to do? Does furnace only run on propane or does it take battery as well? Just want to conserve battery as much as possible because of CPAP use at night.

Furnace burner uses propane for heat, but the blower uses 12 volt battery power. Use it as little as possible as it is a sizable draw on battery.

In addition to the furnace blower, the refrigerator controls and LP gas detector will draw power too. Depending on how cold it is and the type/condition of your battery, your battery won't last very long. With a typical single group 24 battery in healthy condition and not very old, you'll probably find it'll last about a day with temps in the 40s-60s. Maybe less depending on how much the CPAP uses.

Do you have a generator or some way to recharge the battery?

There are some other battery options that can extend your range, but unless you want to go off grid regularly, it probably doesn't make financial sense.

We've camped a few times with no hookups for a week at a time during the summer months, so no heat needed, but the battery was fine for lights which we kept off as much as possible. Also, trying to conserve water by using the bath house kept the pump use to a minimum.
I don't know how much a CPAP uses.
We just replaced all bulbs with LED's recently which also helps on battery drain.

I full timed in a T2363

Hi,

I have spent several years full time in a T2363 (year 2000 model). We stayed for months on end in the midwest in the winter and spent six night below zero in the trailer.

It took a lot of mods to be able to do this. If you are serious about this, do an upgrade on your batteries by modifying your front A frame and installing two six volt golf cart batteries. That will give you more power. You will need it. Short of that, take extra car batteries or a generator.

Good luck on your adventure. On the breathing machine, if it is critical, get a big UPS to run it and test it before hand to know it will last long enough.

If you need more info on modifying a T2363, let me know. Glad to help. I just upgraded to an Arctic Fox 25R and I am beginning many of the same mods I did on my Sunline again.

My rig is equipped with Anderson power pole on both the batteries and the truck. If I have to charge the camper batteries I connect it to the truck and let it run at idle until the camper batteries are charged yeah a 235 HP generator is over the top but at 120 amps it does not take a long time to recharge. Usually my 100 watt solar takes care of the recharge but weather is sometimes a factor.

Another idea is to get a Buddy heater with a propane bottle(s) and forget about using the furnace. It doesn't use electricity but you have to crack a window for ventilation. Zero power from your battery.

The Mr Buddy's do work but they are not something I think I would want to sleep with and I guess they don't either. They are not sold in Canada or Mass. that may or may not tell you something. Even a small one only runs about 4 hours with a 1# cylinder. They actually make catalytic vented RV heaters they are not cheap. The RV heaters exhaust port serves two purposes one to get rid of combustion gases and the other to bring in make up air to replace the interior air what was used to fire the heater. Here is one to look at. Welcome Page
