T-2575 aqua magic IV
The handle keeps sticking to open to dump and won’t hold water. How to repair and if parts still available?
Great site.!

Yeah there are kits you basically have to remove the toilet but that's OK it probably will need a good cleaning any way be sure to get a new base seal it is not the same as a house toilet wax seal RV dealers will have them.

Thank you for replying this thread, I wasn’t sure what kit to order or what it looks like it. Time to remove and do as you suggest..
Thanks to administration to forward this to my e-mail..

It sounds like your problem doesn't require removing the toilet at all, unless you're seeing water on the floor. It's a common problem with these style toilets when they haven't been properly used. I believe Thetford sells a special brush and cleaner to clean with, but I GENTLY used my household toilet brush when mine would have the same symptoms. Once I spun the brush around a few times (didn't seem to get much out), I sprayed silicone spray around the rubber seal there and then sprayed some silicone spray with the valve closed to sit on the ball valve. I did this with the water off and toilet dry, so it wouldn't have water in the mix. Since then, it has held water and antifreeze and works just fine with no sticking.
If this seal is torn or broken and you have to replace it, then you'll need to remove the toilet. Thetford does sell parts for the AM IV still, even though the whole toilet has been replaced with the AM V.
You can avoid this in the future by making sure to manually fill the toilet bowl with some water before using. If you put solids in the toilet, it's recommended you make a small X with toilet paper across the valve, that will prevent the stuff from making direct contact with the valve and it slides down cleaner.

I see no rubber seal nor a ball. If there was a seal that a movable flat door seats on it when flushing it may broke up and fell in?
I saw there is groove that a seal might or look it can be in it. Thank you for replying to this thread..!

Should be a flat plate that opens when you pull back both levers one opens the drain the other dumps in freshwater. If there is nothing there the water will just run through and it will probably stink! If you can see into the tank you got a problem, it definitely requires removing the toilet for repair.

Yes both levers works jointly or separately. If both used , i see inside and water going in , If not both one only used is water going in and plate closed.
I don’t see anyway for anything dumping with door closed and not seeing opening to pass the stink.

It sounds like you have everything and it’s working as it should, minus the sealing. Typically that flat plate valve is called a ball valve, some of the newer toilets (especially Dometic ones) more resemble a ball.
The rubber seal is mostly hidden, you really can’t see it but it’s there. Stuff gets caught in it when you open and close the valve, which prevents the water from holding.

Ok, I understand.. if stuff is keeping it from performing it’s functions, how to get to clean, get to it to free it and make it work?

I would almost bet your problem is not the handle sticking, but that the slide valve is sticking and as SunlineFan said, you will have to clean it carefully. The slider moves into a groove around the base of your toilet and solids get stuck in the groove, then the slider sticks and the handle won't move. This also can cause the water to leak out around it. Gently try to work the handle while lightly pushing down on the slider and once it's free, clean the groove..not a pleasant job but they do make a tool for this..dont drop it down the toilet! Once it's clean it's easy to do a bit of maintenance with a bit of vaseline on the slider edge.

Yes, agreed! Sorry if I wasn't clear about this before, Wolverine. When mine was sticking, I sprayed some silicone spray liberally on the slider, and then poured a little RV antifreeze on it. Then I let it all sit for a few days. That loosened it up a good amount where I could open it easier. Then I cleaned with the brush.

Ok, I get that. After reading everything with everyone’s input..
I’ve gone through and still having problems.
Plate when pushed inward does release to function to dump and water , but it snaps back to lock it shut.
It’s the return motion that it sticks .
At this moment in time still have to press the plate to keep using it.

That still sounds like a lube issue with the slide plate (aka ball valve). Lube it with some silicone spray and see if the movement improves. Hard water can dry out the rubber.

I had a similar problem with it sticking open and the water wouldn't shut off. I replaced this valve and cleaned, lubed cables and levers with silicone spray. Good as new.
