I know I said I might go to the auction, but after the events of yesterday it just doesn't seem important anymore I'm waiting to hear from our son to see if he's coming home or wants us to come down to Blacksburg.

Pam,

We all understand your situation, so please don't worry about Sunline today. I'm sure there's someone else here that's close to the factory that could stop by.

Maybe you should hitch up QUEtSE and pull her down to VA? I too am praying for all those affected physically and emotionally. Was your son in the Norris engineering building at the time?

Jon

He was not in Norris Hall during the incident - thank God. He heard and saw the commotion as he went from his 9:00 to his 10:00 class. He is doing fine and doesn't want us to come down. He and a friend across the hall are going backpacking for a couple of days to get away from it all. He said the Convocation helped. I watched it on TV and it was very sad. Poet Nikki Giovanni did a good job of lifting spirits at the end of it though.

Pam,
I am so glad that your Son is OK. Hiking in those mountains would be just the thing to clear your mind. My heart goes out to you as our daughter was at Penn State when we learned of the shooting at the Hub. It was agonizing waiting for word from her. That must have been very hard on you. I am glad you have good news and pray for the families of the victims at VT.
I just now walked in the door from the auction. It was very sad. I do believe they may be still at it. I stayed until 4:30 PM and they were just getting to the repair shop and still had to go across the street to the assembly building. Scrap brokers were buying all the aluminum. I wanted some new slider windows and waited for a lot of 6 that I thought I could bid on. When they go to it they combined that lot with 6 others and a scrap dealer bought it all for $400. What a shame that people that could use the parts are not getting it and the inventory is going for scrap.
Jon, (aka Sunline Fan) I have to apologize but in Larue's office there was a book of all brochures I think from 87 - 98. But at the rate they were going they would have combined all the lots in that office and sell for 1 price. There were a lot of decals in the repair shop but again you had to buy a whole row of parts to get the one shelf of decals.
I wanted a new outdoor shower door and would have like to upgrade lights, additional towel rack and other misc. outside utility doors. But when they combine the lots it put it out of my reach. I could see the DW when I come home with 3 / 50 count boxes of city water hook-ups just to get my new shower door.
The buy of the century would have been a skid of boxes containing embrodered hand bags with the Sunline logo and Que logo. Then again when they got to it they may combine that lot with a dozen others unwanted items. I am sure someone will pick up for e-bay sales.
Rumor of the day was told to me by one of the auctioner staff, that a "former Owner" had a number at the auction and is planning on opening some sort of repair or assembly type of operation in the buildings. More fuel for the rumor mills.
Wish they had a public sale for trailers owners first as I think they would have got a better return on the RV parts then they did at auction.
All for now,
MM

Opps, just one more thing I noticed. all the jigs and layouts for all models was roped off and not included in the auction. Does anyone know if that is part of the "intellectual property" items we saw in e-bay? I don't know what that means. It was kind of neet looking at the jigs and seeing your coach layed out on a board.

MM,

Thanks for the auction update. Did you think most of the stuff sold, or might there be another auction? It would be great if that rumor was really true. Only time will tell.

Did anyone bid on LaRue's office contents? Whoever got it got a heck of a deal, with all the Sunline stuff in there. I think the real office to bid on would have been Sue Uibel's office, because she had multiple binders of most Sunline brochures. Many of the older ones that I have are only photocopies and appear on this site in color thanks to LaRue, but I think they were actually Sue's brochures.

Did you see two file cabinets near the logo rack? Those file cabinets contained all the spare copies of brochures. It didn't have too many of the older ones, but that is a real goldmine.

From the looks of the auction site, I could tell it appeared to be set up for scrap dealers to come in and clean the place out.

How much did that custom Sunline Cargo Trailer go for?

Jon

P.S. Forgot about your question about the intellectual property. I believe the jigs and other model specific equipment were included at the price for each product line. They seemed to be selling the product lines so someone could buy them and take it to their factory and start production right away.

It makes me sick to hear that scrap dealers were buying items that Sunline owners could use down the road. Does anyone have any idea how expensive it is to have aluminum siding custom formed? That's the only way anyone sells it. And I'm sure the stuff the scrap dealers don't want will probly get trashed.

Jan and I did just that. We left Missouri Wednesday, arrived in Palmyra Pa. Friday morning and at 3:30 Friday afternoon we headed home from Fireside RV sales towing our new 276SR. We had selected that floor plan and had been putting off our purchase until we heard about the closing then we went on an immediate search and found this one.

We took a trip back there last may to check out the quality and were very impressed. I expected to be nothing less since we have also owned a '98 T 2475 Solaris since 2004. We love it and our daughter's family is going to buy it.

That is a really interesting rumor about one of the former owners having a bidding number. There has been a pretty long standing local rumor that one of the former owners wants to reopen.

Jon,
Very sorry but the rain started up a bit when they went to the yard for the cargo trailer, I didn't see that price. All the trucks went between 3-4 K. The garbage truck was a buy. It had the lowest mileage 37K and went for $13K including the garbage.
The cabinents I looked at were empty. There were 3 boxes about 2ft x 3ft sealed that could have contained contents of file cabients. They too were not included in the auction. One box was not sealed and I did a little reading. Felt bad that I was doing something ilegal, but no stopped me. Found one book that had all the door side drawings of all models metal placemnts. Very detailed. Also found some outstanding bills from January 07. Guess some vendors did suffer. I did write down the dealer prices of all 2007 models from one dealer book that included a special $1,500 dicscount to the dealers. Seems they were trying to dump stock early on. If you want I will post these prices at a later date.
I do hope that some of the stuff is still around for a public sale. I don't think that much was left though. Even plastic parts has a recycle value and they did not leave much. I saw a couple of independent RV Tech's that even they couln'd handle the quantities they had in the lots. The two gantry floor cranes were the only thing they seem to have a reserve for and did not accept low bids.
We have to keep our eyes open for future sales or e-bay for items left if any. Again I am sorry for not attending the whole sale but even though I was in the market for new tires, I wasn't going to wait until 9PM to get 4 missions. Like I said If I did they probably bundled the stock to a price I couldn't afford and quantities I didn't need.
Just one comment about the ex-employees that came to watch the proceedings. You could tell who they were, they all hugged each other and asked what they were doing now. They all had this look of shock as they watched. I really wanted to talk to them but felt they needed to be with thier co-workers for this final end to Sunline. Very sad.

MM,

All I can say is wow, it must have been really depressing just to be there. I didn't realize so many employees would want to show up. I knew it would be depressing just to be there and see what was left, but I'll bet all the tears made it even more depressing.

I did read a post somewhere a while ago about the vendor who supplied the dinette and bunk cushions to Sunline. I think he was still waiting on like $2000, which he said he will probably never see. Following that statement, I was surprised that he said he would sell to Sunline again in a heartbeat.

Again, thanks for braving the downpours and going. I would have loved to go, but there was no way I could just leave for a day in the middle of the week, especially since I had all last week off.

Jon

Hi everybody.
Well, I did attend the auction with my brother. It was pretty depressing and kind of weird after having taken the tour in '05 when the place was going full tilt (also with my brother). Just seeing all those tools and parts going to just anyone after all the years they were used putting quality into the Sunline marque.
Anyway, I wanted a sleep sofa, but by 1:30 PM they were only on !lot 1100 and mine was lote 1850, so I figured they'd never even finish the auction on time so we left and went on to Carlisle to the spring auto show.
I'd estimate there were maybe 2-300 people at the auction, and quite a few Amish folks in attendance. Got to walk all over the place. Everything was basically moved to the main factory floor except for parts and some other items. All tools had been moved, tagged and placed in the area where the trailers used to go on the slide dollys from one end of the factory to the other as building progressed.
There was one strange thing....while looking through the office spaces, on one desk was the 40th anniversary original picture in a large frame signed by several of the Sunline management. There was NO lot tag on this but everything else appeared to have been tagged. It was almost like an afterthought someone threw the picture on the desk. And in the main lobby the large ariel photo of the sunline plant from maybe the 90's sometime was still mounted on the wall, not tagged.
All in all a strange experience for me, since I'd never been to an auction like that before.

Charlie.
