Somebody tried to break in...

Our Sunline. Sitting right there in the driveway. Creep opened one outside compartment, guess he wasn't happy to find dog play toys stored there. He attempted to climb in the upper bedroom window, it was locked. He broke the lower glass in the window by the door, but the keyed deadbolt was locked. No damage other than that window. So now I have to find a replacement. Looking online, a solid one piece window will set us back about $300.00 (lots of diesel camping juice). The window is one of those tall narrow ones, where the lower section cranks out from the bottom. To save money probably just replace it with one piece solid glass. We live down a quiet street out in the country. Never any problem before. Glad I decided to keep the boat parked at the Navy base marina or he would have tried to get in that. Only thing he left me was an empty fifth of cheap vodka.

Sorry to hear of your break-in.

When you say "opened" did he pry it? If so,throw a light inside the compartment, or turn on the compartment light if there is one, at night and look for light "leaks". I speak from experience here, the compartment doors can be slightly bent and cause a real (aka water) leak that can be hard to find!!!

Sorry to hear about the break in.

If Gary(EMD_Driver) doesn't have a window that fits. I would next check out Bontragers Surplus Inc. When we were there a couple years ago a friend of our picked up an exact match window for trailer at an excellent price. Here is the website where you can their contact information:

Bontragers Surplus Inc.

JohnB is on a distinguished road
If Bontragers does not have one, try these guys, they are just down the road. 2 years ago they had ~ 500 plus windows there. I bought one for $20, brand new with a crank out bottom. But I picked it up. Freight might run $40 but still not $300

They sell on Ebay
Axles, Rims and Tires items in Johnson's Surplus store on eBay!

Here is the phone number

Johnson's Surplus in White Pigeon | Johnson's Surplus (269) 483-2249 & 12195 Us-12, White Pigeon, MI 49099 | <Retail Shopping/Clothing/Military Surplus> - Yahoo! US Local

They may just have more stuff than Bontragers. For sure layed out better inside.

Hope this helps

John

Thank you for the information. The compartment's door is undamaged, luckily it was not locked. I will get those measurements. The websites want the rough opening numbers, I have been waiting for warmer, dryer air to remove the window. Have the broken glass bottom section duct taped up right now. Just really torques me, someone to damage, break anothers property.

Well that sucks! I see you live in St. Leonard. I've lived in Southern Maryland all my life but people around here never cease to amaze me. Our home is at the end of a quiet street in Leonardtown and that has been a concern of mine. I put up some cameras and signs to let people know they are being monitored... haven't had any problems... then again, maybe we are just lucky.

Moral decay. Look at how parents let their children act. Look at how teenagers have no respect for anything the resembles authority. Look how people park their cars in front of stores blocking the sidewalks. Look how many now have handicap tags and job into the stores. Moral decay.

Looks like this wet, cold winter might finally be giving away to spring. So it is time to remove the broken window so I can get some measurements for a replacement. I have had the broken glass taped up with duct tape but will replace the window before we hit the road for summer travels.
