So we LOVE pictures do we?

Well our long weekend at Fishermans Memorial St Park in Narragansett, RI was a real nice adventure..made even more so by the proximatey of Nicole the tropical storm system, which disrupted the east coast. Any way here's some photos.
Sunny basking in Saturdays sunshine

Enjoying a nice campfire...DW in complete charge of same..

Sunny from another angle in a really nice campsite!

A shot from a tall hill looking down over the CG...my Sunny left of center and another Sunny to the right...7-8 Sunlines there this W/E

A view of the stormy Atlantic from the Coast Guard Lighthouse station at Point Judith, RI. This was Friday afternoon in the rain squalls, thus the limited clarity.

Hope you enjoy the pictures

Bob

Great pictures Bob, thanks for sharing. That last one looks like it was taken from the Rose Nulman Park next to the Point Judith light. That is where we go in the summer to munch the clamcakes from Aunt Carries. The hill you took one picture from used to be a gun emplacement and ammo bunker way back when it was a fort. Friends and I used to explore what is now Fishermans long before it was a campground ... memories ....

I did manage to drive through there a few years ago. The Park Ranger let us look around even though there was nothing available. I was impressed. It is not easy to get a reservation there, seems like every time I look at Reserve America there is nothing available unless I want to reserve almost a year in advance.

Bob,

Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos. Your Sunline looks fantastic, the fiberglass sides and different decals make it really stand out.

Gene...your right on the location, it the Nulman Park. Isn't that such a great place to take in a spectacular view of the ocean? We really try to go there a couple times a season. Thanks for the info on that hilltop too. I didn't realize that was what it was used for. I had no idea other than it seemed odd to find such a landscape feature in a campground. It does provide a wonderful panaramic view of the surrounding territory.

As to getting a reservation to camp at Fishermans...it really is a problem since so many campers are reserving a year ahead of time and that makes it almost impossible to get in during the summer months...it's fully reserved now for all next summer. I will wait to go in early October next year...Seems to be a better chance at getting a site then. A lot of Sunline owners are apparently regular campers there from what I saw. Hope you will eventually get in to camp there Gene, I think you would enjoy it, and you only pay the RI resident prices too...a bargain!

Thanks Kitty and Tweety for your nice words too!

Bob

WOW, nice pics and neat CG! Thanks a bunch for sharing. It is great to see Sunlines in action and how folks camp. We all do it slightly different and always open to picking up new tips.

And to see other areas of the country and the campgrounds. Many places to camp, never enough time....

Thanks again.

John

Bob,

You are absolutely correct about the reservations. This is the first year I have been closed out from going to Fisherman’s. I now realize I have to reserve a year ahead through Reserve America. It is one of my favorites, see my review in the campground section. RI - Fisherman's Memorial State PArk

That bunker you climbed to take the pictures used to be covered with trees a couple of years ago and the view was wasted. There is another bunker just past the ranger’s office that is also covered with vegetation that you may have missed. I wonder what views that bunker would give if cleared off too.

You have made me sad for missing Fisherman’s this year. Thanks for the pic’s.

Jay...read your review and you called it right for sure. You sound like you have managed some week long stays there which is saying something nowadays with advanced reservations being the standard. I wonder if I will ever hit a week in the summer season. I love fall camping though so I think getting in for this time of the year will remain a possibility.

Problem is many of the good eateries are closed for the season by now. I will make a point of getting up that other hill next time I camp there. I'm curious now.

One upon a time you used to have to mail in your reservation request for the summer dates and site number by, but not before, a certain date in January. If there were duplicate requests the earliest postmark wins. Then it was discovered that if you "knew someone" you always got your dates and site. Now at least everyone has a chance to reserve a site up to 364 days in advance.
