Senior Pass

We finally got to Land Between the Lakes for our Senior Pass. We now save 50% at State Parks and COEs.

Here we are at LBL. We stayed for a few days. The CGs there are huge but getting a site on the water - not easy, even during the week

And at Poole Knobs in TN. We stayed here 2 weeks. Again, if you want a site on the lake, very early reservations must be made. We'll be staying there for 2 weeks in Sept again, right on the lake. We finally added an awning. Little Stinky is getting lots of use this summer.

The odors from the broken sewer tank have faded away but the strange funky sour cheesy odor from under the sink/stove has not. It seemed to be emanating from the wood or glues used in the counter top the man replaced who owned it before us, but we can't tell for sure Without pulling out the entire sink/stove unit, a big job, there's no way to really tell what the cause is or exactly where it's coming from. The more humid it is out, the stronger the unpleasant smell.

Yes, but not sewer. We bought a 22g BlueBoy or HoneyWagon. We've learned to really conserve water.

The COE and State CGs here are beautiful, clean, safe, and some do have sewer hookups. The senior pass makes it more affordable for us retired seniors to camp more often and for longer periods of time.

Don't you hate bad smells you can not quite find?? We had a bad smell in the back of our house that we thought was a bad potato. We looked and looked with out success. Then a bent down real low and there in a very good trap was a mouse that had been left a little too long. smell all gone now thank God.

Short of ripping out the sink and stove unit, we'll never know what the cause is. It's pretty sickening when it's warm and humid. It also pervades the bedding, our clothing and everything in the draws under the sink and stove. We'll be selling "Stinky" soon anyway. This old unit just has too many issues we can't deal with, either in time or financially. Randy's arthritis prevents him from doing a lot of things (repairs, carpentry) he did when he was younger. We don't want to put more money into it as it's 28 years old.

Another issue is the bathroom/shower. It's more to shower a child than an adult. I can see why Norm is enlarging his. The bathroom sink has a crack in it and leaks. The bed is too narrow for two adults to sleep comfortably and one must crawl over the other to get out of bed. OK for young agile folk, a bit much for two seniors. The A/C is old and so loud you can't have a normal conversation when it's running. Here in the south A/C is very important. There's no comfortable way to watch TV or DVDs since the only place to sit is at the table with our necks crooked since the only place for the TV is over the bed. Opening and closing the bed every day isn't at all practical.

At our age we need something larger that doesn't require major changes by a carpenter to be comfortable.

This trailer needs someone younger who is good with tools or who only needs a camper for the weekends or overnight stays.

Stinky will be the last used trailer we ever buy. We checked out other used units and they all had problems. Draws falling apart. Leaky roofs. Spongy floors. You name it, they're trying to sell it. Now that we KNOW what to look for, we can't be ripped off again.

Sadly, since Sunline went out of business, we had to look at other brands. We found a 19' 2008 leftover brand new Zinger ZT19RD we plan to pick up this week from the local dealership. Any problems and we take it back for free repairs as it comes with a Warranty. If we could locate a used Sunline, we'd again be stuck with all the repair bills. Remember the $500 black water tank Stinky needed? There is no way the man couldn't have known that tank was split and leaking. Once they have your money, you're on your own with used units.

If Sunline was still in business, we would have looked at them first for a new trailer. But that was not an option. They've been out of business too long to find a brand new leftover 19 to 22' unit complete with 2 to 4 yr warranties.

Wish you well with your new trailer. What will you be using for a tow vehicle?

Good luck with the Zinger! We looked at them at one year's Reading RV Show and were impressed by how they are built. I remember Steve crawling out from under it and saying he was impressed with the construction. I love the floorplan you chose. There aren't many 22' trailers with both a dinette and sofa. Now that you KNOW you love camping it makes sense to trade up and get rid of all those headaches. If you make it to next year's meet & greet you'll join the SOB club with Frank! (SomeOtherBrand)

Thank you Norm. For now, the same Chevy Astro Van since we wont be going anywhere near mountains the rest of this year. It's rated to pull 5000 lbs. The ZT19RD has a dry weight of 3984. We'll probably get something bigger to tow with by next spring. We'll have to see how it goes.

Yes, they do seem to be well constructed from what we could see on the lot. We liked the quality, inside and out. It didn't have that cheap look inside that so many TTs have either, and they're well insulated. When the weather is bad we'll have the sofa, and it's comfortable, to sit on to watch TV or read. The bed is Queen size and there is plenty of storage space. The shower is a nice size and the waste tanks large. The fridge is large so we can get rid of the Cooler we've been dragging around with us. I think for the type of camping we do, we'll be happier with the Zinger than with Stinky. Yes, we may well join the SOB club and be there next year.

Hi Folks,

"Some" of us (like most all here.....) remember the age before texting and internet 2, 3, 4 5 etc letter short cuts. And back when.... SOB's had a totally different meaning.... (I'm glad Tweety posted the long hand version so we knew... as I went Oh my....) And that 3 letter shortcut is hard to forget....

Since we are creative here on SOC... can we create a "new" 3 letter shortcut for prior Sunny owners? Like maybe PSO's (Prior Sunline Owners) or something else?

I really like you guys and gals and don’t what you to be confused for some other group...

LOL

John
