Progress on my T2262

Ok,I have 2 weeks before I make my trip from NY to Texas. So far I have rebuilt and installed the door,I inspected the wheel bearings and found one inner bearing went to pieces as I removed it so I replaced and packed all inner and outer bearings.
I have installed a new trailer plug but the wire colors and placement were not the same and I haven't tried it yet to see if it works. The yellow wire was on the center post on the old one and as far as I can tell, yellow is a directional wire and the center post is not.
I am going to buy a new spare seeing as the tires are less than 5 years old.
I still need to replace some marker lights, buy a W.D. hitch, fabricate a battery box to hold 3 batteries, check the fridge for operation and clean the interior.
As suggested I installed the roller on top of the door,I checked the awning leg supports and found no wood so I installed 8 gauge sheet metal supports that I bent and wedged in between the floor and chassis then bolted to the legs.
These repairs are just to get my wife and I to Texas and back so after I can do a more permanent repair when it warms up more
Is there anything else I should check out?

Looking at your picture, it looks like the back is damaged above where the bumper connects to the frame. If that's true, look at the wood in there. That usually happens when the wood framing on the bottom is rotted out and the back sags.

Double check the staples that secure the black and grey tanks under the camper, they can sometimes get loose or the wood that they are driven into can deteriorate. Obviously check everything on the roof...

yes there is wood rot around the edges.I figure I could always pull a Red Green and use lots of duck tape! The holding tanks have screws into small metal plates holding them up and seem to be all secure. The wiring diagram was very confusing so I went to my mechanic that installed my hitch and he showed me the proper wire sequence. The WD hitch is ordered, the side mirror extensions are ordered, the spare tire is ordered.
The owner still needs to get the title mailed to him so I can register it in my name and we are supposed to leave the 12th.Everything has stopped until I can register it.

That sure is a good thing the black tank will not go tumbling off on the highway (I've heard of that happening)!

See what you can do to support the rear if you will take it on that long of a trip. It can really get to bouncing when being towed. It looks like that end would be under a bed? I have a very similar situation but luckly, the trailer was never driven anywhere with the wood rotted except when I pulled it home. I can't stress enough how much I would do whatever I could to get some support on that rear.

well good luck with that! Have you called DMV to see if they will take a written bill of sale?

Do you know if the NY owner ever registered it? If he did go herehttp://www.dmv.ny.gov/forms/mv902.pdf

get him to get a duplicate.....if he did not register it, I would make a call to DMV to see if you can register it with a tracing of the VIN #

Here is a link to Mass DMV for replacement title....

No they want a consistent line of ownership. The owner I bought it from wanted me to say I bought it from the owner in Mass. but I didn't want to go into DMV with a potential stolen vehicle

Ahh, I think that is called skipping title. The guy you bought it from probably never registered it. I bought a used car like that once before I knew that it was something of a no-no. It worked out fine becuase the guy had the signed title from the true owner.

That whole not answering the phone thing is worrisome. I';m guessing that the guy you bought it from doesn't want to write a bill of sale. Sounds sticky, I hope you get through this and get a title without too much grief from the wife...

Ohh, I was going to say that removing the water heater on mine gave me great access to get the almost 8 feet of new wood in that runs along the bottom rear of the camper when it's time to finally reframe ours.

That's a tough situation. I wouldn't have bought it in the first place without a title, or at least a bill of sale.

Did you buy it from his house? Have you gone back there and knocked on the door?

If he won't answer his phone, he may have programmed your numbers and knows not to answer. Perhaps you could borrow a friend's phone to call to see if he'd answer that way.

Na,The kid is barely in his twentys,I think he bought it,put his brothers dealer plate on it, brought it home, camped out in it for the summer and decided it was more work than he wanted to do to rebuild the door when it got cold out.He did pay fair market value on taxes to get the title,it just hasn't been mailed to him yet.6 weeks works out to the day before I am supposed to leave. If I don't get it registered in time we are going to drive down in my new to me truck and stay in suites the whole 2 weeks.$$$$$$$

Well, at least your situation with the title isn't actually as bad as we thought. Unfortunately, it sounds pretty unlikely that you will be able to get plates on it in time but you never know. I just never have any hope when it comes to the DMV moving fast.

Where are you guys at up in NY? I grew up in Schenectady.

We are in Schenectady just off State Street within walking distance of Central Park. We've been here 26 years.I try not to worry to much about things. If you worry too much all you get is ulcers and who needs that.Things always work out one way or another.

Hah, no way. I grew up on Lang St just off of Van Vranklin close to Union College. I would have been 11 when you moved there. I haven't been back in many years. My mom still lives there but not for much longer. We are going to try to get back up that way this summer if we take the road trip we are planning.
