One off the Bucket List

Penny and I returned from a week-long odyssey through the mountains of far southwest Virginia. We visited five parks and fulfilled my ambition of setting foot in every county in Virginia and seeing every major river in the commonwealth. I also checked the Cumberland Gap off my to-see list.
We covered 956 miles, crossed two mountain ranges and traveled through three states.

Traveling during the week, we had two state park campgrounds to ourselves. Here we are at Natural Tunnel -

Touring in the Taj was effortless. We love having our "efficiency apartment" on wheels.

Y'all come on down sometime, ya hear?

We've been thinking we need to get down to that part of Virginia. Your pictures have given me the itch to "get 'er done" sooner rather than later. Were you in the no hookup area of Claytor Lake? We always stay on site #40, and I don't recognize your site as one of the electric/water sites.

LOL, that's 'cause you drove past it and maybe didn't see it. It is one of two sites immediately on your right as you enter campground D, before the open area on your way to the lower pull-throughs. We're on D2. Our awning is facing the kiosk and grass area. No one in front, back or to either side and we got to watch "the parade" on Friday night and Sat. morning. Penny saw it first - it's primo.

Ah...that explains it. That entry gate is always closed when we're there for Thanksgiving, so we come in the other way. We have admired those 2 sites and wondered if they have the hookups...now we know

I viewed all of your wonderful photos. They made me wish I were there camping near by. I'm sure we would have enjoyed some campfire chats. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
