Wannabes are now Soontobes

Thanks to an SOC member, we were able to look at another 2363 today - a one-owner '02 in York (PA) for $7500. To put it briefly, to our eyes it was in almost-new condition. Very clean and well-kept, inside and out; no signs of water damage or soft spots anywhere; all systems and appliances work; almost no wear anywhere, including the carpet; roof clean and maintained; undercarriage almost rust-free (it had been stored inside); tires almost new. So, we put a deposit on it and will settle on it on Monday! We paid more for it than we would've liked, but, considering some of the things that you all have told us, condition became the paramount concern to us. The owner is throwing in the hitch, a Husky with sway control, ball mount and shank included (Please let us know what you think, JohnB.) and also the tire covers and hoses, chemical for the tanks, etc.

We are very grateful to all of you who helped us think through this process, gave us advice, looked for Sunlines for us, and have given your support - you all are great!

COngratulations! I am very happy for you It sounds like the owners are throwing in alot of valuable items! Your patience paid off. Hopefully the owner will help you set up the hitch so that your trailer is riding nice and level. And give you a few lessons on how to work any of the systems you aren't familiar with. I'd suggest getting a full hookup site the first time out, so you have the sewer right at your site when you go to dump and rinse. I just know you'll like camping! (once you get over the learning curve) Be sure and check out our Meet & Greet events. There are still 3 coming up this year! FYI the one at Buttonwood in the spring usually sells out way before the event. If you decide to come, tell them you're with the Sunline Club when you call for a reservation. Again, congratulations!

The Husky WD hitch and friction sway control is what we would call a standard WD hitch with anti sway control. In your case the long wheelbase of your truck will really help on towing stability. I for sure would try it and you need too, to get the camper home. If once you get all loaded up with camping gear and things, if after proper adjustment and optimizing everything else on your towing rig, you find you still have some trailer instability then we can start talking about WD hitch alternatives or adding on a 2nd friction sway control as the Husky accepts 2.

Here is a catalog on the Husky. See page 2 or 3. Do not know if you have the round bar or the trunnion bar version
http://www.huskytow.com/FTP/PDF/H-1-D_HITCH.pdf

Here are the instructions. Find your model number in the brochure and then enter the part number in here for the instructions.
http://www.huskytow.com/PartLookup.aspx

The prior owner I'm sure can help you get it hooked up to get it home. Once you get the camper and the truck loaded as you will go camping, then the hitch will need to be adjusted to be optimized and we can help if you need it when the time comes.

Good luck and ask away with any questions

John

Smile Our Sunline

Well, today we picked up our T-2363... and boy, are we happy!!! We had not posted much this past week b/c we were "holding our breath," hoping that nothing went wrong or that the buyer didn't change his mind before finalizing the sale.

We went down to York in the late morning, did the title transfer/tax/tags, etc., and with a little help hitching it up, drove back to central PA. We used the Husky hitch with 1000# bars and Draw-tite sway control that the PO threw in. We did stop at Harbold's RV Sales and Service in Dover and had them check that the hitch was okay; the guy there suggested that we take up the chains by one link but that otherwise we were good to go. He did suggest that we get a trunnion bar hitch b/c of the low clearance. From there on out, it was just a matter to trying to learn how to tow safely. We stayed around 60 mph on the 4-lane (Rte. 15) and lower on the two-lanes. We did run into a rather vigorous thunderstorm north of Harrisburg (at that point, Matthew was driving) and had a little bit of sway from wind gusts but otherwise a good trip for two newbies. We were pleased with our F-150's performance, the electronic brake control and the tow-haul function were definitely a blessing.

Once we figure out how to post pixs of the "new addition," we'll post some. Can we say again how GRATEFUL and THANKFUL we are to all you SOCers who helped, advised, and encouraged us so far in this process!!! No doubt, we will be posting questions and seeking more advice and we hope to meet all of you at Buttonwood next year, if not before.
