LP tank cover mystery part. Any ideas?

Fellow Sunline Owners

Hopefully you can help me solve a mystery.

When I bought my camper (used) it has the so called Deluxe LP tank cover. Deluxe meaning it has the cover that tips up verses the standard lift off one.

Here is a pic of the LP tanks with the cover up.

And inside there is a small plastic bracket duct taped to the tank cover by the prior owner. They wanted to make sure someone did not loose it. See here

Here is the mystery, any ideas on where that little bracket goes or what it does? For almost a year now I have not been able to figure it out for myself so I need to bring in the big guns for help. And, yes it took me this long to even get around to posting to ask… . What ever it is it has not stopped the good times in our Sunline.

Any ideas?

Thanks

John

I think you'll find that it clips somewhere on the regulator assembly under the cover. I have a similar (but different) one on mine.

Well, OK maybe I missed it. I'm not home right now but here is the regulator off my other 2004 camper.(T2499)

The memory recalls the new camper has the same regulator as it is also a 2004.

The older camper did not have the Deluxe cover, had the lift off top, but I tried once trying to figure out how to put that bracket on the regulator on the T310SR and it did not fit anywhere.

There are 2 holes in the plastic bracket that sort of seems to mount to something.

Can you throw a few more hints since yours seems to have "something"?

Thanks

John

John:

We have the deluxe cover from the factory and have never seen that piece. I looks like it might have been a mounting bracket for something, but it is not factory original.

John,

I also have the deluxe hinged propane tank cover, and there is nothing like that piece on mine. I'm guessing that it is a bracket for something, maybe to hold the sensor to a wireless thermometer that can't be exposed to rain/snow ?

I've seen several hinged propane tank covers, and non of them have had that piece on them.

But, knowing you, you'll create something for "that" bracket to hold.

Have you removed it to see if there is any writing on the back of it that might reveal what it goes to ?

Hi John,

Sorry, I can't help either. I've never had the piece, though I'll admit my 286 didn't come with the cover from the factory.

Like Kitty said, I agree it might have been from a thermometer sensor or something.

Way to go Kitty, that's exactly what it is. I have a La Crosse thermometer sensor on our deck and the mount looks exactly like that, right down to the 3 mounting holes. Dimensions of 5 1/4" x 1 1/2" with 3/4" tabs on each end. John, your mystery is solved.

H'mm OK you two which one? http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/

The search over there is as endless as trying to figure out how that bracket fits on the tank regulator.....

Kitty, I think I did take it off once and look on it. I do not remember any molded in name of anything. I was trying to fit it in every way possible on something to do under the propane tank covers.....

Mike, maybe DW and I have to hook up the camper and haul it all the way up to Nick's Lake to compare it to yours this weekend. ( I Really wish ). Maybe next year I can figure out how to get up there.

Thanks guys

John

PS So far the mystery is yet to be confirmed. I thought Steve had a good lead on it too and maybe will just yet.

To the other folks who are as clueless as I am in this bracket. We have stumped some real good detectives here.

Thanks for replying. At least I am not going totally off my rocker trying to get it to fit something on the camper, just yet anyway. ( I guess Kitty really knows me....)

Hopefully that final clue will come. Mike has a lead on it.

Thanks

John

John,

Here's a link for my thermometer sensor.

http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/tx6/index.php
The online manual shows a drawing of the mount which may be helpful to you. There's still room at Nick's Lake but you better head there soon, it's a long drive for you. We'd love to have you there.

Mike

Looks like Mike wins the "free $500.00 Fuel card" that John was offering if someone told him what that bracket was for

Now, I bet John WILL find a use for that bracket, after all it did come with his Sunline, so he WILL use it

Mike, dog gone, you may have nailed it!!! When I'm home this weekend I will measure it. Now why would the prior owner duct tape it there???

Now to Kitty's $500 reward. Well if you pass GO and then Free Parking you can pick up the $500 bill on the Monopoly board.

I wish we could come up to the Nick's Lake. We are going camping this weekend, but north west Ohio at Indian Lake. It's still a lake... Only 50 minutes from home. Slighlty less then the 14 to 16 hour tow to upstate NY. You all have a good time.

John

John,

When I had a LaCrosse wireless thermometer, the directions said that the sensor had to be mounted "Out of the weather" which I took to mean that it could not be rained or snowed on, so I had velcro-ed mine under the hinged propane tank cover. Could not think of another spot that would have been out of the weather, but I wasn't happy with the accuracy of it.

I now have a wired one, and it's mounted inside, along-side the door frame with the sensor fed thru the wall and it reaches the outside by going thru the hole for the additional door light I installed. The light above the handle is the new light and the sensor is now located on the bottom of the light(sensor was not installed when I took this pic, and lens in light has been changed to amber)

Kitty

I see you have the plexiglass door mod, the clear slider panel, what looks like the screen door spring and the extra outside light. I just did the spring thing 2 weeks ago, have the Lexan for the door in the shed not yet cut to fit.

Gee, I missed your light mod. I’m not one to forget a cool looking mod. How did I miss that one. Does this have it’s own switch inside or did you tie it to the amber Sunline stock light switch?

I also notice your siding crack looks bigger. Is it growing?

John

PS the wireless transmitter. I have a Taylor. See it here. It sits outside on “The Shelf” next to the paper towel holder. If I do not have the shelf up, it sits on the tire wheel chocks. I never got around to mounting it and on the shelf I can read the temp while I’m outside as well. Mine has a filed display on it.

Morning John,

The "Crack", no it's not getting bigger, the caulk is just getting nasty looking, so when I get Sunny back, I need to remove the yucky caulk, and install new stuff. I NEVER had a corner crack problem wihen the doors had the square corners. And I also now have a crack starting at the other corner, so will drill the "hole" and caulk that corner also. Sunline did offer to replace the entire panel when the crack first appeared, but said it would "probably" just do it again, so I declined the offer as to me that meant messing with the corner seams, and where the siding meets the roof.

The second outside light is currently tied into the original light switch, but I might put it on a seperate switch. I installed this light because, when you open the door, or leave it open, the door blocks the original light so the steps were not illuminated, and mom and the old weiner dog needs to see better. I did change the lens out to an amber one.

I will be glad to get Sunny back, as I have some more thoughts rolling around in this blonde head. Since I can't go camping , I can at least work on it ans spent time in it here at home.

I just love this place, the folks, the ideas, and the $$ it sometimes makes me dpend
