Poppy and Nana
A funny story about an older gentleman from your neck of the woods.
About 30 years ago my family was camped, in a tent at Paradox Lake campground. By chance we had a site by the camp hosts, a man by the name of Gene and his wife. He look close to 80 and said had lived in the Adirondacks all his life. Before the Adirondack park had be come a New York State park he had been a guide for weathy hunters and fisherman and had at one time worked for the DNR.
He and his wife bonded to my kids right off and he showed us how to build a fire using brich bark, took my kids fishing and told us stores of the park. A very nice and kind couple.
As we sat around the camp fire I ask Gene if he spent the winter in the Adirondacks He said " No it was too cold now for him in the winter and that he and his wife went south for the coldest snowest part of the year". I ask him if he went to Florida and he replied "No, that he wintered in Albany"
It turns out that he and his wife had gone to Washington, DC once but that was as far South as he intended to travel. A great old timer that it seems you only meet camping.
