Last Camping Trip of the Season

Our last trip this year is scheduled for October 23-25 to Friendship Village Campground in Bedford, PA. I can't believe the season is ending but am planning some nice trips for next year. There is never enough time for fun!!

Our last trip isn't until Thanksgiving this year. We're heading down to Claytor Lake State Park in Virginia for the holiday. Our youngest lives near there, and our daughter will fly in, so it should be a nice way to close out the camping year.

The season is coming to an end really fast. We are going out this weekend and again on the 23rd-25th. We already switched to the flannel sheets, and stocked up on anti-freeze.

Our last trip will probably be Nov. 20-22 @ Old Mill Stream in Lancaster, PA. This will be our third anniversary trip with Sunny. We took out first "real" trip to Old Mill Stream the weekend before Thanksgiving after taking delivery on Halloween in 2007.

We are also taking a trip to Artillery Ridge in Gettysburg, PA the 23-24 Oct.

Ours will be this weekend in the Adirondack Mountains. Here in upstate New York we have to winterize by the end of the month at the latest and most state sites close this weekend. Sad time of the year.

Our last weekend will be Halloween Wknd. Going back to Southwoods where the WNY Meet and Greet was. Trying out a new tank flush valve that we saw in use at the M & G (Sorry, I forgot who was using it ).

Just got back from Knoebels covered bridge festival. The weather could have been a bit better, but still had a blast. Stayed at Lake Glory, great sites.

The park was packed, and I think they had more vendors this year. Picked up a few Christmas decorations.

Have one more trip left at Pine Hill on the last of the month for a Halloween weekend.

Then pack the Sunline up till spring.

Then we start at the end of April at Hershey High Meadow. We have tickets to see Lord of the Dance in Hershey, and a fun camping weekend.

We have a trip scheduled to Pine Grove Furnace State Park next weekend. Our very last trip will be to Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg, with some members of our Church, the last weekend in October. We've never camped that late in the season before, so it should be interesting!

We're trying really hard to NOT have a last trip this year. I want to be out at least once with snow on the ground.

Earlier this year I installed tank heaters, and I just purchased two more golf cart batteries and a small pile of steel to make a larger rack to accomodate the four batts. The rack is on the to-do list for tomorrow, provided I can kick enough of this cold to be able to cut, weld & grind. One more addition to the trailer this year might be a Olympian Wave Catalytic heater to save from running the furnace during the day. Jury is still out on that one for now.

Hoping to sneak out this coming weekend to a local state park to test drive the 4 battery setup. Also planning on a return trip to DC the first week of November.

A 2nd for that notion to have a last trip of the year until Dec 31st.....

We snuck out 2 nights this past weekend. We jsut came back from 14 days being out.... Rained a few days this week and Friday night but let us get into camp with a drizzle. Sat and Sunday where blue sky and some clouds but cool. But we where still camping! Delaware State Park here in Ohio. We go there often.

We are now on a 3 week down stretch at least. Daughter and DH have a wedding in FL to go to and Nana is on grand kid sitting detail. The hosue will be full time "active" again.

So early November is a possible and the Fri - Sunday after Thanksgiving. New Years has been a ritual the last few years in the camper. The rest is weather dependant. Central OH can be all over the map. In the 60's or a foot of snow... or 3 inches of rain.

I don't know how you folks do it having to wait all the way until spring.... I'd go nuts... Maybe take a road trip south??

Happy camping to all as you wind down for the season.

John

PS Frank, we will be expecting pics of the mods, and the process...

Last Trip

We just got back from the last trip until Mar. After years of traveling through MI to get somewhere else we finally decided to make it our destination. We were intending to drive the MI great lakes shoreline from Grand Haven to Sault Ste. Marie to Port Huron. Unfortunately bad weather kept us off most of the L. Michigan shore and we'll have to save that for another time. From what we did see, a rerun will be well worth it.

The Grand Haven range lights in a gale force wind:

The outer light, protected by a huge slab of bow shaped concrete, takes a pounding:

We were planning on camping right on the beach at Grand Haven SP, but with sand stinging against our faces--and a contractor plowing the road!--we decided a move inland was in order. I didn't have a tripod and it was very difficult to hold the camera steady with a zoom of 200-300 mm. I kept sand off the camera by standing as close to the water as possible where the wet sand wasn't blowing.

At home now, the temp at 8am was -2°C, about 28°F so we'll be winterizing in the next day or two. I already drained all the tanks and opened the low point drains and taps just in case.

Henry

OMG, great pics of the waves. Now you know why we have switched from cruising on the water to cruising on land. Whew...

And to the other 264SR - thanks for posting the new photo. Now I know what ours will look like when it is all set up.

I wintereized our motorhome a week ago, nighttime temperatures have been below freezing for the last few nights. Our trailer is almost ready to go. Tonight I plan to run the elecetric heater on low, safe than sorry prevails.

Our plan is to leave around Nov 7th, our latest start ever and proably with the coldest weather by far.

Seeking warmth and sun,

Jan and I are going down to Branson the weekend of the 24th. Going to do some trout fishing, take in a few shows and a classic car auction. Cooper Creek Resort is right on Lake Tanycomo and excellent trout fishing.

I took ours from Missouri to Hookstown in Beaver County Pa this last weekend. That's the first time it has been back to Pa. since we bought it in 07. We had a death in the family and I just felt like taking my own home with me. The motels there are not all that great unless you go into Pittsburgh. I parked it in my brothers yard.

We had a great year with our Sunline this year. It traveled through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pa.

While in Pa, I was traveling along a back road, Harshaville road near the intersection of Route 30 and 18. Saw a Sunline parked in a yard there. Is that anyone here?

Pam and Steve have y'all been to Claytor Lake State Park before? It is not that far from me and it is certainly in a beautiful part of the state. Would appreaciate hearing from you on this.

My last camping trip will be November 11-15 at Trap Pond, which is a state park in Delaware. I have been there before and like it a lot. Northern most stand of bald cypress on the East coast. Going with a bunch of folks, so more fun! Really fun in spring and summer, too, because of the great kayaking amongst the cypress and all the attending wild life.

Hi luckyva...we've been to Claytor Lake so many times that we have a site that we consider "ours" It's the site in my signature photo!! Our son graduated from VT this May, and is still living in Blacksburg. (got a job in Radford) Oh you are so lucky to live in VA - so many nice parks nearby! We LOVE Grayson Highlands, Douthat, and Sherando Lake too!

On our way

We begin our camping season Nov 7th, heading on ward to our last camping trip sometime next April. We plan to have a rather passive winter focusing on friends, swimming and tennis with a possible side trip to Texas.

On Nov 7th, a late start for us, we;ll begin drifting down the east coast to FL taking coastal route US 17 most of the way.
