Interior Clips on Hehr Windows

What's the purpose of these things? It seems obvious to me that they're to hold an insert in place as they are all around the frame, but what would that insert be? Perhaps something that keeps more heat in?

Do they hold the screen in place?

If it is not the screen, then that may have been an option for a storm window that was never purchased. I have seen clips similar to those when storm windows are added to RV windows from the factory. Just not Sunline, in an Arctic Fox actually.

Hope this helps

Yeah that would be my guess too but they must be a really neat fit there is not much purchase. I put a piece of plywood in the front window in mine in the cool weather but I had to glue shims to the plywood to keep it in place.

Yeah, must be for a storm window option. It's not for the screens.

Years ago, my parents had a mobile home with Hehr windows and each one had a glass storm window in an aluminum frame that mounted inside with the same clips. The frame had a lip that was about 1/4" wide (could have been less) which sat flat up against the window frame. I think we used to remove the screens to replace them with the storm windows in the colder months.

The screens in mine are on the inside of the frame and can not be removed. I see the logic of storm window fitment but never seen any wonder if any one in Sunline land has pictures?

I see some folks make their own out of Lexan or plexiglass.

Dad once commented about a mobile home they once lived in that had removable storm windows - since that conversation, that has been my assumption as to what they are for. Would be nice to find a source for storm windows to go in them!

Well.... I found the pics I have, amazingly enough. I cannot exactly remember if these are from a Nash camper or an Arctic Fox. The camping buddy who sent them had a 29V which is an Arctic Fox but I lost track if these are from his current camper or his prior Nash. Both made by Northwood Manufacturing. He took the curtains down to take these pics for me.

These will actually fit the windows in my vintage Sunline as the frame in mine is the same. The storm fits in the small 1/2" flange that creates the flange to hold the window against the wall.

If you want to see all the pics I have on them, go here for a slide show: Northwood Storms

Here are a few to show the concept. This was in a bathroom which is why the glass is textured. The crank out knob has to be removed to put the storm on.

Here is the storm in place

Here is the window with the storm removed

The clip that holds them in

And the storm laying out of the window

There is a foam seal on the back that will fit nicely in the 1/2" wide flange I was talking about.

Hope these help.

John

My '76 Prowler had those clips, too. I made up some storm windows with thin Lexan and some molding for joining plastic wall panels. They worked pretty well for late fall camping.

I grew up in a house trailer with those storm windows and clips. It was a '69 Richardson 12x60.

My parents mobile home was a 69 also but I don't remember the brand. The windows were square framed, so the storm window frames were mitered like a picture frame.

There was a set of storm windows for a 2653 advertised on CL in NJ for years, probably five years ago or so. That's the only mention I've heard of them, and I've never seen a Sunline with them installed.

Every 2653 built would have been with radius corner windows though.

We had a Park Model trailer that the screens were held in by those clips. When we closed up for the winter (it was on a seasonal in Fenwick Island Del.) we would take the screens off and cover them in heavy duty aluminum foil and reinstall them. It worked great to keep sun from damaging interior over the winter.
