Generator

I can't remember in which thread this came up, but a price around $1k was mentioned for a Honda 2kW generator.
I just read an ad for an EU200I for $849.
Seems pretty good. May be this is the right time of year to shop.
It is at <www.rvsurplus.net>, or <www.rvpartsnation.com>.

Good pricing, but I wonder what the shipping charges would be. rvpartsnation.com has the 2000i and 20001 companion at up to $340 off, but don't say what the "off" might be.

Definitely worth a check if a generator is on your wish list.

If the $849 delivered to your door is real, that is better then I got. 2 years ago my Eu2000i was $995 ish delivered to my door from Camping world special.

As far as Honda or Yamaha, both have great reviews. They also cost a lot more then the ones out of China. And the ones out of China have worked well and not so well pending person using it and brand.

Bringing this post back from the dead, we are about to head across country and I have a big heavy and loud generator and my bro has a Honda EU2000I and I wanted to know is this enough to run the AC and fridge in my Sunline 195sr?

Thanks,

Bill

You really need 2500w minimum for your AC and don't turn a light on at the same time. 3000w would be more practical.

Thank you I thought so, will bring my bigger generator that has proven itself in the past. Those Honda's sure are nice and quiet though.

BTW. I've been interested in the Powerhouse Generators Camping World and others are selling. 2100w for about $750 and 3000w for $1100.

I went to a local dealer last weekend and asked if they had any I could hear. They use them on their service truck so they took me outside and started up a 2100w. I was impressed that it had a key electric start (3000w has remote) but it was rather loud. I've heard worse but I think the 3000w I want would be to loud.

We bought this Champion as a backup generator. We used it when the power was off a week or so ago. Then when Gary got my Onan propane genny up & running we switched over to it and lent the Champion to my Greyhound Rescue Group Leader. They were so impressed with it, that they order one the day their power, phones were restored, and I think my uncle has also ordered one.

Here is a link to it, it's still on sale for 299.99 PLUS FREE SHIPPING !!!!!

Any thing with a open frame will be noisy you pay for the quiet. All open frame generators run at 3600 RPM an inverter generator runs at a much slower speed dependent only on load. They run much cooler also that is why they can put them inside of a case. A Honda 3000 watt inverter is one of the quietest generators I have ever heard quieter then the 2KW but they are pricey and pretty big but will run the A/C and a bunch of other stuff. I have an open frame 6KW Honda for the house it is not quiet, nice unit but noisy.

A camper next to me a couple of summers ago tried to run an open frame 4k all day for his AC. HOW RUDE! You could hear that thing 1/4 mile away. The campsite shut him down but allowed him to run it the 2 morning and 2 afternoon hours that NYS DEC sites allow for generators as long as he had a spark arrestor on his muffler which of course he did not. There should be a noise limit with the site rules. It is strange they require a spark arrestor when you can have a huge campfire.

My biggest pet peeve camping is when we're sitting quietly at a nice campsite listening to the river and birds and someone (or usually several people) starts a loud generator for a couple of hours twice a day. They always put it at the opposite end of their camper from where they're sitting which is usually by us.

We just got a used Honda generator from a buddy of Tom's. Good deal on a 3000eu (I think!). What are the rules for Nick's Lake? I haven't heard it run as I've been away, but Tom says it is super quiet.

Hi Debbie,

Last time we where at Nick's you could run the genny from 9:00 am to 11:00AM and then 4:00 to I think 7:00PM if I recall correctly. It was 5 hours split between 2 times. We really like Nicks Lake. We will be back!

John

I think the federal parks have a noise limit I believe it's 72 Db but I have never seen a ranger with a noise meter. It's just plan rude to run a noise generator why don't they stay at home sitting inside instead running a generator to stay cool inside a camper why did they decide to go camping in the first place if they were going to sit inside?
