Dogs on wheels

Anyone camp w/ your dog(s)?

What do they enjoy the very most?

Here are our stinkers... Neyll and Moosey.

Would definitely want one.

Hi Bugbite,

I don't know how much a ladder weights, but just so you are aware, Sunlines do not have roofs that you should walk on. It was a special option to get a walk-on roof from Sunline.

So the question is, why would you want to put a ladder on? I’m guessing you’re talking about installing a ladder on the back of the trailer.

I bought a 10’ aluminum ladder that I used to clean the roof of the camper and if / when I need to get on the roof. I have plywood that I put down on the roof that it large enough to span the roof trusses if I need to get up on the roof. I also put carpet on the bottom of the plywood to protect the rubber roof.

I’m sure purchasing a 10’ or 12’ aluminum ladder from Home Depot or some other hardware store is cheaper than purchasing and having a RV Dealership install a ladder. Plus you’re not drilling holes in the side of you new Sunline.

Just my opinion.

We take our Old English Sheepdog whenever we go camping. He loves being outside with us.
Last summer we took him to the top of Whiteface Mountain.

Greetings back Hutch. You are a gem you know! I could tell a dog lover a mile away. Anyone that doesn't love dogs I have grave reservations about... Dogs are fine judges of character. See my sig.

Huh I didn't know that on no roof to walk on. We have plenty of ladders here. Good thing I asked right?

Thanks for the hints how to clean the roof w/o damaging.

The hardest part of camping with our dog is that we have to keep him tied. We are lucky enough to have enough land that we just open the door and let him run so he is not used to being tied, but people are afraid of him when he runs up to say Hi. He does love to sit by the fire at night but then again..............who doesn't. M&S

Camping for sure would not near be as much fun without seeing the fun of the campout thru their eyes.

Hey Bugbite,

I travel with my Greyhound (KD), and moms old fat weiner (Precious), and 9 lb. minature double dapple weiner (Harley, more like HE** on 4 paws). I use x-pens where ever I am allowed to have them. They connect right to Sunny. I can't outrun a Greyhound

The X-pens

This is KD, doing what she does best :P

We have two camping furkids, and one soon to be camping furkid! The hardest part for us is keeping the fraidy cat from barking. she is scared of EVERYTHING, and barks as a result. she is getting better, however.

We have traveled to CA from NE Ohio twice...once with our pop-up and, this winter, with our new-to-us 2004 Sunline 1950. Both times we took along our German Shepherd, Glory. (I know..we are crazy to share such small quarters with a big dog!) Before the first trip, we worried about whether she would bark at people walking by the campsite. (She's not a barker unless someone comes right up to the house at home.) Somehow, though, she just seems to understand what the bounderies of our campsite are...even though they are different at each park!...and never barks or fusses at all. She's a fantastic hiking companion and, except for too much vacuuming due to dog hair, we are very happy to have her along.

Yep, we travel with a dog, unfortunately. He's a 7 year old liver & white Springer Spaniel. He's a very good traveler. He sometimes get crabby when confined in small spaces, but I think a lot of it comes with the breed. He loves RVing, and loves to smell all the new smells and meet new people (and dogs), but he's very unpredictable. Moreso than me . He also loves water, so he takes every chance he gets to get wet, and of course it's not easy to bathe a dog in an RV. He does have a track record (if you know what I mean) and that makes us a little nervous initially when around other people, but he's pretty much fine now because he's on Prozac (the human kind, not the canine kind), plus a whole basket full of other meds, including one just for thunderstorms.

This is the only dog that I've really known (the last was when I was very little and was put down before I remember much of him), and sorry to all you dog lovers out there, but I'm not impressed enough to get another. I guess it does have a lot to do with the breed, but what happens if I switch breeds on the next one and don't like it. I don't think I have a 30 day no questions asked return policy. I would never consider a cat because I'm allergic to them. I'm fine when around them, but if I start petting them, then there's problems.

Oh, did I mention Cadbury loves posing for the camera:

Just reacting to this and offering help.

I apologize if it sounded harsh. It certainly was not intended that way.

Spaniels, just like Terriers are not for everyone. That's all.

He looks like a very sweet somebody too. Certainly poses well! I wish mine did.

Again, I apologize profusely to the poster.

For the dog lovers

So do I love all dogs? Of course!

As all dog lovers know there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

Pepper's favorite thing about camping is checking out everyone elses dog on our campground walks, and checking out all the new smells in the dog walk area. He hikes REAL well on the flat lands and down hill. We have a backpack we put him in for the up hill parts when he decides to just SIT.
And with all that fur he just loves to plunk down in a stream. I need more x-pens so we can make the Kitty rig. We only have 1 right now.
Pepper the Lhasa Apso

Yes, we actually brought a trailer so he could ride the Virginia Creeper with us People were really amused along the trail.

Oooo A Lhasa!

The dog we had before Myrtle the Cairn was a Lhasa.

What a sweetheart she was! Love them... something very mysterious about them being from Tibet.

They were bred for personal protection. They were carried in the Monks large sleeves of their vestments. What wonderful companions they are.

Our baby was a red/blonde named Empress Lotus Blossom Ewok.
Wokky for short.

I have tears in my eyes at the thot. Your baby is darlin! Give him a big hug and a scratch under his chin for me eh?

Dogs are great judges of character!

Best fit for a new family member

Terriers are certainly not for everyone!

You must put up with their independence, spirit, and high sense of humor. The Scottish type especially... (Modern Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Skye, and Cairn) All lay claim to their common ancestor the Aberdeen Terriers.

Here is a neat and FUNNY list of what the Scottish type Terriers are like. Mine do it all except Arrrroooo! Which is a disappointment to us. All their puppies arroooo'd! Obviously they don't because we want them to!

If you aren't laughing after reading the list, a Terrier is not for you.

Frap

http://webpages.charter.net/mungoman...peal/frap.html

One must always research what dog is right for the family. Afterall, a dog is for their lifetime.
