John,
Are those your bottle jacks, just forward of the tires?

Kitty,
Glad to hear the Gnats aren't a problem. Yes, Brunswick is probably the most relaxed CG we've ever been to. We'll go back again next year. We're now looking at 4 months with NO camping!
Hope to see you and Gary there then.
Oh and John, you mentioned wind. Friday night we had really high winds. I had to stick a piece of foam under the stone guard covering the front window to keep it from rattling so we could sleep. By morning, the winds had calmed back down.

You mean these? Boy you have a good eye that far away...

They are the poor mans' center stabilizer. I already had them. And actually they are cheaper then buying new Bal jacks. I just rasie them until they touch and then stop.

The rock on this big TT is bad. And my existing Bals unscrew. Come summer a telescoping cross brace mod will be forth coming.

H'mm, you still have 2 usable Bal jacks up for sale?

Do the 2 bottle jacks help? We were just at Camping World and looked at extra jacks, but choked on the price. I'll also be interested in whether the cross brace works better or less so than the bottle jacks once you get that mod done.

This big camper has been a challenge with the floor wiggle. On the T2499, I made the wood wheel chocks and they took 90% of the wiggle out. YEH… But not all.

So when I went to the bigger camper, I used the chocks right off. Well they did not have the same effect. They helped and without them is it really bad, but not close to being OK. So I saw EMAN had added center scissor stabilizer on his T2499 and stated good results. I too looked at the price and said, wow that is a lot, I had better check if the concept worked first as I have a buddy with a 34 foot Skyline dual slide and he added center scissors jacks and they did not help him much.

So I have a qty of bottle jacks accumulating from different things over the years so I tried them, in my case they helped but still not there. So they are a piece of the solution. In my case my 4 main Bal scissor stabilizers unscrew themselves. I crank them to put a slight load on them and as soon as I take the wrench off, they go back about ¾ of a turn. Come camp break down, it is common 1 or 2 are doing nothing. The T2499 never had that problem. Lighter camper.

On your camper the wheel chocks will get you a gain if you do not have them. The center stabilizer might, have Steve try some kind of bottle jack or something as a test. The cross braces I think are the final answer.

In my case I need to:

1. Keep using the wheel chocks.
2. Make a metal clamp on the existing 4 bal scissor stabilizers to stop them from unscrewing under the heavy weight of the camper.
3. Keep using the bottle jacks for now. May upgrade later to on board mounted scissor jacks.
4. Mock up cross braces in my yard. If they cure, then make them.

John

John, if they keep doing it, you could always replace them with LCI jacks...mine never move, but they take a lot of effort to try to lift the trailer at all with them. I've thought about lubing them to see if it helps at all, but I've just never gotten under there to do so.

We also have the LCI jacks and never have any problems with them becoming loose. I bought a matching pair to put in the center direct from LCI, and they were only $85 including shipping. They don't take 100% of the wiggle out, but they do make a huge difference.

H'mm Ok Gary, Jon, Mike

Edit:

Well I do keep my BAL scissors jacks working freely. When they get so much torque resistiance I feel like I am going to overload something, I clean and apply more anti friction "stuff".

OK is that better???

Yes, less lubed, dry and they are stiffer but they crank so hard then I feel I'm going to twist something. Never had this on the T2499 and the same jack.???

Thanks for the offer on the LCI but I'll pass on that one right now. I'll dream up some kind of quick action clamp lock unless someone else has solved this problem another way and still had them work easy.

I use a 1/2 drive spinner wrench with a universal joint on the end and a 3/4 socket. I never went to the cordless drill deal yet. I have 2 spinners in the shed from socket sets of years ago and only ever use them to change tires…and that was before the impact wrench came along... So now 1 lives in the camper with a 3/4 socket on the end.

If you guys have gone to the cordless drill, you may not feel the heavy drag so much.

John

John..... I'm not touching that first sentence, with a ten foot pole!!!

As far as the cordless drill thing goes... If the jack screw has too much drag on it, you feel as if the drill is trying to twist your arm off! Don't ask me how I know this...

OK, I guarantee ya that Cindy IS NOT reading any of this conversation, or you might be testing those stabilizers all by your lonesome.

Hey, Gary do we need to check our stabilizers ??????????????????
