Camping isn't only for summer!
Kitty and I decided to go camping this past weekend. Wright and Penny (awellis3) were going and I wanted to take Kitty camping, as a birthday present. BTW: Her birthday is today.. 1-2-12... We got to Shenandoah River SP on Saturday and left today. The weather was a bit cool, but not too cool for Kitty. Teach and Penny also had friends there and it was nice, spending a small bit of time with them!
There may have been 10 campers there this weekend and there were even a couple of couples tent camping!
We were in site #29 and Teach & Penny were just a short walk away, in the next site..
The dogs had a good time also!

Gary left out the part that I towed the Sunny for a while. During the drive I had to pull into/out of the Winchester, VA Flying J (but I did scuff the curb slightly ). I towed until we got to the north end of Front Royal, then I had Gary take over so he could drive thru town. Now that we tow with the dually, I know that if the "hips" fit so will Sunny, and the hips also help me keep the rig in my own lane HAHA, BUT if I want use your lane, look out, I just might.
The stability is amazing even in the wind, just have to learn the new turning clearances, the 5th wheel cuts closer than a TT when making turns. I also notice a difference between towing with my single rear wheel VS the dually. The stability difference is noticeable, even though I did not tow with my single rear wheel, I could notice a difference from the co-pilots seat.

Kitty...do you like the way the 5er tows better than your TTs? What do you mean by stability? Just curious since we trust your & Gary's judgement, and we always hear that 5ers tow so much better than TTs. I can't imagine something that tows better than the Tweety.

Happy Birthday... Hope you are getting along better. It is always good to go camping. I am glad we showed you guys that park. It is pretty nice and isn't too far from home, but still feels like you went somewhere. We have to get out sometime soon if the weather holds out.

Tweety,
You know I towed many Sunlines from the T1661 to the T-2653 and even though I NEVER had sway issues (good hitch setups), the 5'er just feels more stable, I didn't seem to feel the side winds push the rig as much as I did with the TT (might be in my mind). Hitching up is MUCH easier, you can see what you are trying to hitch to. Room, it just seems so much roomier. John B has basically the same floor plan as us, except his is a TT. He was shocked to discover that he was able to stand up in the slide room, something he can't do in his TT. Yes there are extra steps, but you get used to it. A few things I would change/look for "if" something happened to Sunny: Still a rear living room, but door going into kitchen instead of living room, the larger bathroom with the big corner shower. I would prefer a bathroom that contained the sink, toilet & shower with walls/doors that separated it from the living area and bedroom area of the rig. If I were ordering a brand new rig (not likely), I would have all the carpet deleted, except for in the bedroom. Free standing table & chairs, sofa bed in place of jack knife sofa. Lots of insulation would be a MUST for year round use. I'm sure there are other things, but can't recall them right now. OH, one of the air ride pin boxes, I think that is one huge item that makes the rigs tow so nice, even though it towed VERY well before we added the air ride pin box.. Also no sway/WD bars to stow, no busted knee cap when pipe slips off while trying to pull up the snap-up brackets. But, there are also con's to a 5th wheel, but I feel the pros out weight the cons. Next time you see us, you need to tour the 311 and "feel" the difference. Feel free to ask us any other questions, as I know I have forgotten stuff.
Kitty
