Becoming Alumni

We've come to a major fork in the road in our lives, and it is time to change some of our RV lifestyle.

The old timers here will remember that we bought the duallie a few years ago with the intent of moving up to fifth wheeler. Shortly after we got the truck, the real estate market tanked and the recession kicked in so we held off moving on up.

There have been some other changes in our world, too, but we're ready to make the jump to a larger trailer so that we can take some extended trips and maybe even consider some part-time life on the road.

Later this week, we'll hand our well loved '99 T-2453 over to the dealer and pick up our new fifth wheeler. So as not to keep you in suspense, here is the floor plan of the new trailer:

A link to the manufacturer's page on this model:

Keystone Cougar | Floorplans

We're excited, and if we can get into a park somewhere, we'll be taking it on its first trip out on Labor Day weekend.

Luckily, this beast will fit into the site we booked for the ADK M&G.

Steve,

Congrats on your new fifth wheel! That looks like a very functional floorplan and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I can't say I've seen a bathroom slide before.

Where will you be trading the Sunline into? Just curious so I can match the pics accordingly...

Jon

Yeah, the bathroom slide was a real double-take for us. It is just a large linen closet, but it makes the bathroom huge.

Alpin Haus in Amsterdam, NY on Route 5S will have the 2453.

We really fell in love with the floor plan as it works for us on so many levels. The large kitchen and the rear picture window with dual swivel rockers was a big part of our choice.

It's Keystone rig so they all have the extendable rear bumper and storage rack which is all set up for as many as 4 bikes.

The "old red canoe" hasn't seen a lot of use. It is very heavy, and I don't lift and carry it as well as I once did. This may be our cue to let it go.

Gail took a few pics during our first shake-down trip last week. We were stuck indoors for Tuesday and Wednesday due to the heavy rain from Hurricane Lee, but Thursday and Friday were very nice.

Steve

Have a request from others viewing over my shoulder... LOL Any pics of the bath with the slide and the bed room area?

That bath slide is a first I think. Also neat campsite. Where is that?

John

John,

I will snap some pics of the bathroom and bedroom in the morning when there is plenty of light. I am taking it back to storage for a week.

The campground is Northampton Beach operated by NYS DEC. It is on the Great Sacandaga Lake just a few miles from our home. No hookups, I am sorry to say. We picked a real nice site sight-unseen, but found some even better ones during our walkabouts. There was only one other couple in our loop, but other loops were quite full considering that it is the week after Labor Day.

I discovered that picking sites for a 36' fifth wheeler is a lot different than for our 25' T-2453. It won't fit in places we thought were spacious! But everything you've heard about backing up one is true. I am rarely having to pull forward and try again now.

And a certain duallie pulls it quite nicely...
