Awful senior moment but very lucky

Getting ready to head to Branson this afternoon for Veteran's week and the memorials and ceremonies that will be held. I walked around the trailer 3 times checking that everything was ready to roll.....I didn't look up.

Had the door been an inch lower it would have ripped the front of the roof off. As it was, it just made a small hole, about 3/8 inch, in the roof in front of the vent and tore the vent lid off.

Having had a hickory nut shatter a vent cover once, I carried a spare. The spare is now on the the dicor is warming up. We will be on the road shortly. We will be driving by Camping World in Springfield and I wlll pick up another spare cover.

I'm just sitting here now letting my nerves settle down and sharing this so you will know there is always one more thing to check. I can't believe I did this. The lower panel of the door will have to be replaced.

Over the years I have totaled two very nice racing bikes on garage doors one even cost me a rear car window so I can feel your pain. My garage door where the camper is 12' and once it's opened it goes to the top other wise I wold have at least removed the TV antenna.

Switched cars with Tom one day. Opened my door to remember my car was gone. I walked though the open overhead door, got in his car and arranged my work bags, and, due to habit, just put car in reverse.... and promptly backed through the garage door behind his car.

So the Sunline is tougher than an overhead garage door? Wow!

Paul,

Don't beat yourself up on this. "Stuff" happens even though we try our hardest to prevent them. Just think how bad it could be if you did not check what you do already?

Over the years between me and my wife we have christened several vehicles. My first one was the 1st new truck I bought. A 1980 F100, 300 CI in line 6 with the 1st year they had OD in a 3 speed manual transmission. Went down to the courthouse to register it and they had this monster high new curb. Must be 8” tall…. Sure enough Ford had these big hub caps that stuck out beyond the tire. Yup, crunch… into the curb. ERRRRR. I think it had like 50 miles on it…. Until one gets the hang of where the edge of the vehicle is in a high up truck, well…. There is more, but more on farm equipment going to places it was not suppose to.

DW’s case is getting the vehicle in and out of a garage door… I’m getting good at restoring the door frames and fender work.

No sense getting all worked up on this. Fix it, and move on.

Look at the good side of this, the door caught the vent. If it was up about 4 more inches it would of been the AC unit.

Hope your trip goes well

John

We got back home this afternoon. Had a wonderful trip and our Submarine Memorial went great. Had a big crowd at Branson Landing for our service.

The trailer is fine. Replaced the cover and can't even tell anything happened. Very lucky.

After reading the posts above I don't feel so bad now. It's true, "stuff happens."
