Anyone ever lost a roof vent cover?

I know I can't be the first, but I must admit, I was a bit baffled... This weekend we made a 1.5 Hour Trip to Rocky Bayou Campground in Niceville, FL. When we departed, both vent covers were present and accounted for; When we arrived, the one up front had gone AWOL. I installed both of these less than a year ago, and used a ludicrous amount of sealant, as well as quite a few panhead screws around the perimeter. My only guess is my spirited passing of a slowpoke along the way proved that 85 MPH is more than they can take. Guess I'll be installing a new one this week.

Oh, by the way, by cover I mean the Camco covers, not the vent lid itself.

I was pulling mine about 80 mph for quite a distance and mine stayed put.

Strange, indeed. When I climbed up to replace it, only the 4 corners where the mounting points remained. Well, that and a perfect footprint of sealant where It once had been attached. Regardless, replacement has been installed, I'll keep an eye on this one in the future.

I have not lost the Maxx Air cover itself, however I have had to replace 2 of them for being cracked where the cover bolts down to the small L brackets. Prior owner never used any UV protectant and the camper used to live outside all the time. The Sun has killed every piece of plastic on my roof (now replaced) expect the holding tank vent caps.

That said, my cracked covers where Maxx Air brand, not Camco. I can tell the actual plastic used in the Maxx Air cover is better plastic. I replaced mine after about 8 years of sun. If you cracked off in one year, h'mm wonder if Camco is using an imported plastic that does not have very good UV protection. I have had the actual tilting vent covers under the Maxx air turn into almost dust (total brittle) and the Maxx Air is still good. Sunline had a bad batch of vents the late 2003/early 2004 time frame and I had to replace 2 campers worth due to it. The 1st camper T2499 they gave me free replacements the 2nd camper T310SR they where out of business by then. Had to buy my own. The wrong plastic will not hold up.

Oh, I have replaced the original roof vents with some superior quality Ebay units LOL... but I also think perhaps the Florida climate is another concern for me. It really has been getting much hotter over the years, but I also would agree that the Camco product is less than stellar in terms of quality- They do come from Walmart after all
