Question Adding the Basics

Still need to add some basics before my maiden voyage...

Looking for suggestions:

  • A good sturdy sewer hose
  • And looking at this Surge Guard 30 Amp Portable Surge Protector
  • I don't intend on drinking the water from the trailer (I use 2.5 gallon distilled bottled water) but still shouldn't I have some kind of water filter?
Thanks!

Hi Joan,

I have used the Camco Rhino Flex and have had very good results. I am still using the same one since 2003. The key to any sewer hose is try and not grind it on the pavement. The pavement acts like sand paper. I have not had an issue but I pick mine straight up verses dragging it up. If you get a real thin one as some brands are, they can rub through real quick.

I have the 30-amp surge guard. Will post pics later. There is also a good 2nd brand, cannot think of the name right now but others on the forum have bought one and gave good reports. While the surge guard is a good thing for long term, it is not a must have for your 1st trip IMHO.

Water in the camper. Even if you do not want to drink from the system you should still do the annual chlorine shocks/sanitize treatment. The bacteria that can build in a untreated and un-sanitized system can be really high. Taking a shower, brushing your teeth, washing dishes still has the need for a spring time sanitize. Think of it this way, do you want to brush your teeth or wash your dishes river type water. Actually a running river water may be cleaner. Think stagnate pond water. The sanitize process is not hard to do. It has been posted here on the forum. A link is in the FAQ forum.

A filter is a good thing to get even if you are not going to drink from the tank. Certain campgrounds have all type of strange floating things in the water. A lot is pipe rust which is not a bio hazard but for sure does not do your water pump any good. And then there is floating “stuff”.

See this pics. This build up is from 1 campout. They are suppose to be pristine white which they when they started on Friday night.

This was just 1 tank fill up. The spigot was not used often in camp and I did not realize that. All the “stuff” in the underground piping made it to these filters. You cannot see it pouring out a hose but I could not even fill the 42 gallons the system needs without plugging these shut. 2 of them no less.

Here they are cleaned the next day.

Good luck and have fun on your 1st trip

John

Thanks for the helpful response I definitely plan on sanitizing the water system! What do you suggest for a water filter or are they all pretty standard?

Here is the thread with lots of good pictures by John of those holders, including dimensions of the wood pieces. http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...ders-9392.html

I am still looking for the brand/model number of those water filters. I saw them a while back here and can't find the thread.

Here is the water post.

http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...per-12834.html

Kitty did link to the one I use. The write up gives more details on the pro's and con's of what I use and why.

All filters are not the same and there are pros and cons to each.

We are going camping this weekend and will not be back until Sunday. Just wanted to get this up quick. Can talk more when we get back.

If you want to start with a simpler setup, this one works. They are 100 micron carbon filter. I use these when I have a CG with very high iron as high iron will clog the CX-90's. They sell these at Walmart too.
Amazon.com: Camco 40045 RV TastePURE KDF Water Filter - Pack of 2: Automotive

Here is one with the flex hose. I have so many of those flex hose I buy the 2 pack as it is cheaper after I have the first flex hose.
Amazon.com: Camco 40043 TastePURE RV Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector: Automotive

Hope this helps

John
