A Summer to Remember

It's hard to believe... in less than a month we will be starting our journey to ultimately relocate to South Carolina by moving our belongings into a POD, Fulltiming in out travel trailer until late June and then start our 3 day trip to SC. Once we arrive in SC, we will stay in the trailer while looking for the "right place" to make our new home !! We are very excited and have planned this out for over a year now and have several leads on potential homes and new work. The best part is we will be debt free and out of the declining and once great state of NY. We are blessed and fortunate to be in this position and look forward to new places to explore and camp in the South.

Good luck on the hunt for your new home. The way your doing this sounds like what we did when we left SC for FL.. We had a big yard sale and sold everything we could, threw what we didn't want and packed what was left into a POD. Then we climbed into the motorhome with the van hooked to the back and away we went, never looking back. When we found this place we called to get the POD sent for us to unload. The POD area of service was about a hundred miles short of where we are so there was a extra charge, of course, to have it dropped here. Even with the extra cost and labor of loading/unloading the POD was a really good way to handle the move. Beat the Dickens our of Mayflower. The only thing about the motorhome was it had a tendency to shrink the longer we stayed in it. Sold it before it disappeared completely.

Again, good luck with your adventure.

**update** to A Summer to Remember

Well.....we made it !! Arrived last Sunday here in sunny SC and had a great ride. Had great overnight stays in PA. and VA. I would highly recommend Harrisburg East in Harrisburg,PA and Fancy Gap KOA in Fancy Gap,VA. Wonderful people at both locations, especially the KOA. Easy to find and big-rig friendly as well. My only disappointment at the KOA was we were only staying one night.... would love to get back there someday. After a week, we found a home, made an offer and are under contract !! Home inspections start early next week and with any luck in less that a month we will be owners ! Did i mention we have two golden retrievers ?? They rode down in the Jeep with my better half and were great riders . The truck handled the trip well, i would take this combo anywhere !! We can't wait to get settled and start exploring the area, we had a ball back in Feb. when we spent a day in Charleston. The outlook for jobs looks good too, it's been nice having the past 4 weeks off !!!!

Jeff

We had a nice 4th of July..... the campground owners put on a BBQ and everyone brings a dish to share, that was fun. Got a chance to"hang" with a couple that full time down here, we had a nice evening together chatting and tellin' stories
The holiday delayed a few formalities for getting the inspection, things "slow" down a little with a mid-week holiday, thats ok !! Hopefully by tomorrow we have more info and a timetable for the closing. The campground (Jolly Acres in St. George,SC) where we are at is such a friendly spot, the owners are so hospitable, and wanting to make sure we are ok. Level sites, lots of room and concrete pads too. I would recommend this campground to anyone with a big rig a space on the sites is plentiful, plus its is a short distance from I-95.

It might be part of the septic system, LOL! I did look at the campground on Google Maps and saw the pond with what looked like a pier going out into it. Maybe some small brim or something. That is some nice country around there. I do like the flat lands. That stretch of I26 going to Columbia has some big hills to climb when towing.

We're Home !

We finally got "online" at home yesterday...... we love it here in SC, it has been a great summer. We are all settled, have done a lot of cleaning and painting here and have a little bit more to do but it is great !! Lots of yard work done, raking, trimming and burning leaves. We still have to fence one side of the back to make it dog-safe, but that shouldn't be too bad. Plenty of room for the trailer, i will even have a power outlet to plug in that will be close without using an extension cord. No mortgage or car payments.... being debt free feels awesome. I was thinking the other day ....back in NY everyone is closing their pool and soon campers will winterize..... i believe we will be waiting til December to winterize if necessary . That seems so different, we haven't been out camping since arriving at our home, having spent 9 weeks in the camper with our two dogs and the three of us we haven't had the urge to get out. I'm sure this fall we will get out and check out one of the State Parks, from what i have seen they look promising. Both my wife and i are happy here and can't believe it has really happened, one door after another had opened enabling us to do this. It truly has been "A Summer to Remember" ! We are Blessed

Glad to have ya'll in S.C. Santee state park is a nice place to start. We will be spending the weekend there this weekend with our T 1850. It's about 45 minutes from the house, so it's a quick get away. S.C. has some great state parks. We are slowly trying to visit some of them. Who knows maby we can get together over a dutch oven filled with something good.
